Job Title: Collection Management Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Collection Management Specialist to join our team at the Hong Kong Palace Museum. The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing, implementing, and managing collection management policies and procedures, as well as leading the management of The Museum System (TMS) and ensuring data accuracy and up-to-dateness in collaboration with curators and other parties.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement effective collection management strategies to ensure the safe and secure storage of cultural artifacts
  • Collaborate with curators and other stakeholders to acquire new objects and maintain collection documentation
  • Oversee the implementation of collection cataloguing and digitisation strategies, including cataloguing acquisitions and photographing new acquisitions
  • Manage registration work for incoming and outgoing loans, as well as exhibition-related loan management and onsite installation and deinstallation
  • Ensure compliance with integrated pest management and risk management procedures, and provide staff training as needed
  • Respond to reported collection management issues and incidents in a timely manner
  • Lead collection management procurement projects for the museum's art storage areas, and create and monitor the collection management budget
Requirements:
  • Recognised university degree in visual art, design, art history, museum studies, or other relevant discipline
  • At least 8 years of relevant working experience in collection management gained from cultural institutions, with familiarity with Chinese art and cultural objects preferred
  • Good knowledge of museum standards and best practices in collection management, and proficiency in collection management software, including The Museum System (TMS) and/or digital asset management
  • Strong organisational, planning, and time management skills, with the ability to work with tight deadlines and manage multiple complex projects concurrently
  • Ability to pay meticulous attention to details and accuracy, and possess strong communicational and diplomatic skills
  • Proficiency in Chinese and English, with proficiency in Cantonese or Putonghua a plus
