The Hong Kong Palace Museum (HKPM) is a dedicated museum that showcases the exquisite artefacts from Palace Museum’s collections and collaborates with other museums in research, exhibitions, education, and public programmes. The museum comprises 7,800 square metres of gallery space for standing and special exhibitions on Palace Museum’s collections of paintings, calligraphy, antiquities, and historical objects, as well as thematic displays on world cultures and civilisations.
You will be responsible for:
- Assisting in researching, developing, and implementing exhibitions and public programmes to create awareness from the local, regional, and global attention to the Hong Kong Palace Museum (HKPM);
- Assisting in content development and conducting academic research for preparation of write-ups for museum exhibitions, publications, and other public programmes;
- Assisting in coordinating with the Palace Museum, Beijing and other lending institutions on all matters related to the arrangement of displaying their collections in the HKPM's standing and special exhibitions, as well as other collaborations on research and curatorial matters;
- Assisting in object rotations, which sometimes require working outside of normal hours;
- Providing tours and public lectures;
- Assisting in a wide range of administrative duties; and
- Performing any other ad hoc duties as assigned by supervisor.
You should:
- Possess a recognised university degree in Art History, History, Cultural Studies, or other relevant disciplines; Master or MPhil is preferred;
- Have 3 years of experience in research for curating, planning, and/or implementing exhibitions or exhibition publications in museums or other similar institutions;
- Have demonstrable experience in research or exhibition project(s) with Chinese decorative arts. Experience in Chinese textile, accessory, or fashion is an advantage;
- Have good knowledge of Chinese art history or history, good research and translation skills;
- Possess a collaborative mindset and be able to work in a fast-moving dynamic environment;
- Be proficient in both oral and written English and Chinese; knowledge of Putonghua is an advantage;
- Be highly organised with attention to detail;
- Be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
