About the Position

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Center Engineer to join our team at Jane Street. As a key member of our data center operations team, you will be responsible for designing, building, scaling, and maintaining our regional data centers across Asia Pacific.

This is a hands-on position that requires a strong communicator with excellent people skills who can manage projects and take ownership of our daily operational tasks in Hong Kong and our remote locations across Asia.

You will collaborate with our interdisciplinary team, including Network, Server, Facilities Engineering, Market Data, and Trading teams, as well as external data center operators, colocation and smart hands service providers, and cabling/hardware/telco vendors.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Deploying, cabling, configuring, and troubleshooting various types of network and server equipment
  • Designing plans for new equipment deployments using data center best practices
  • Coordinating logistical tasks across locations, including procurement, shipping, moving, and inventory management

Our data centers house the technology and equipment that our firm needs to function. You will play a critical role in maintaining the highest standard of security, organization, documentation, safety, cleanliness, and supplies at each data center location.

About You
  • 5+ years of experience working in a data center environment with strong knowledge of data center best practices and cabling methodology, including managing vendors
  • Self-starter with a strong motivation to work independently and improve processes where possible
  • Knowledgeable of networking fundamentals, with a basic understanding of switching and routing protocols, and able to troubleshoot basic Layer 2 and 3 connectivity issues
  • Experience working in a Linux environment, with additional experience scripting in Bash, Python, or OCaml a plus
  • Successful deployment of a broad range of server and network hardware, including Dell, Cisco, Arista, Ciena, Corning, and Ortronics products
  • Working knowledge and experience with designing, deploying, testing, and troubleshooting copper fiber cabling
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and climb ladders to install cabling and equipment
  • Willingness to travel 2-4 weeks per year and work occasional evening hours and weekends
  • Fluency in English is required, with the ability to speak other Asian languages (e.g., Cantonese, Mandarin, or Japanese) a plus
