Job Title: Head of Business Development and Performance

HSBC is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to lead our business development and performance efforts in Macau. As the Head of Business Development and Performance, you will be responsible for driving revenue growth and market expansion in Macau, identifying and pursuing new business opportunities, and establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external counterparties.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and execute business development strategies to drive revenue growth and market expansion in Macau
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities, partnerships, and channels to increase HSBC Life's presence and market share
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external counterparties to align local, regional, and group initiatives
  • Analyze market trends, competitor activities, and customer needs to identify business opportunities
  • Oversee relationship management with affinity partners, including negotiation of terms of agreement
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Customer Development, marketing, product development, and operations to ensure alignment and successful execution of business development initiatives
  • Prepare and present regular reports, forecasts, and performance metrics to senior management to track progress and inform decision-making
  • Evaluate and drive improvements to streamline both internal and external processes to uplift business performance and maximize efficiency
  • Drive sales excellence through implementing and monitoring effective sales recognition programs
  • Collaborate with Insurance Academy to identify areas of improvement for WPS and co-design programs to uplift performance
  • Support the development of recognition mechanisms and events
  • Drive commercialization plans and activities for new products, partnerships, and campaign launches
  • Support and make recommendations on the implementation of global/ regional business development projects as required
  • Support special insurance projects to deliver planned initiatives
  • Encourage staff development and promote staff engagement through training, guidance, and effective people management
  • Assist the Head of Macau Branch to manage attrition risks through actively monitoring and identifying performing individuals (together with WPS Team Leaders) within Insurance
  • Identify and resolve issues in process and cooperation with channel management
  • Oversee the quality of sales delivery, minimize Cancelled from Inception, and pending cases to uphold business performance
  • Give recommendations to streamline processes to ensure smooth and efficient product design, underwriting, and new business processes
  • Drive the development of best practices in terms of strategic planning processes to facilitate long-term growth within profitable levels of risks
  • Keep abreast of and abide by local regulations and practices, legislations, and operating models to avoid infringement of laws, regulations, and codes of practices
  • Responsible for driving the team to stay on top of market intelligence, industry trends, regulatory changes, and assessment of potential impact to business by conducting research and analysis, the activities of competitors, and emerging trends
Requirements:
  • Degree in finance, business, or a related discipline with a preference for advanced degree completion
  • Minimum 10 years of work experience gained from banking or insurance companies
  • Possess strong insurance product knowledge
  • Solid experience in channel distribution management, demonstrate familiarity with Bank and Insurance regulations, compliance, and sales quality
  • Experience in sales and partnership management with proven track records of performance and delivery. Prior experience in driving Non-Resident Chinese (NRC) business projects is an added advantage
  • Ability to apply excellent commercial judgment and strategic thinking
  • Strong leadership to build and drive a high-performing sales organization with the ability to inspire, motivate, and drive success as well as to attract and groom talents
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and project management skills to build positive working relationships with internal stakeholders and to manage external business partners
  • High energy level to lead and drive change management
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English, Cantonese, and Mandarin
