Job Title: Collection Management Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Collection Management Specialist to join our team at the Hong Kong Palace Museum. The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing and implementing effective collection management policies and procedures, ensuring the accuracy and up-to-date-ness of collection data, and collaborating with curators and other stakeholders to achieve our goals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement collection management strategies to ensure the long-term preservation and accessibility of our collections.
  • Collaborate with curators and other stakeholders to ensure accurate and up-to-date collection data, and to develop and implement effective collection management policies and procedures.
  • Supervise the management of The Museum System (TMS) and ensure that data is accurate and up-to-date.
  • Develop and implement effective collection cataloguing and digitisation strategies, and collaborate with other relevant parties to achieve these goals.
  • Manage registration work for incoming and outgoing loans, and support exhibition-related loan management, registration work, and onsite installation and deinstallation management when necessary.
  • Follow integrated pest management and risk management procedures, and provide staff with training.
  • Respond to reported collection management issues and incidents in a timely manner.
  • Lead collection management procurement projects for the museum's art storage areas, and create and monitor the collection management budget to ensure it is well-spent and within the approved budget.
Requirements:
  • A recognised university degree in visual art, design, art history, museum studies or other relevant discipline.
  • At least 8 years of relevant working experience in collection management gained from cultural institutions, with familiarity with Chinese art and cultural objects preferred.
  • Good knowledge of museum standards and best practices in collection management, and proficiency in collection management software, including The Museum System (TMS) and/or digital asset management.
  • Strong organisational, planning and time management skills, with the ability to work with tight deadlines, manage and deliver successfully multiple complex projects concurrently, and cope well under pressure.
  • Ability to pay meticulous attention to details and accuracy, and strong communicational and diplomatic skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and build internal and external relationships to achieve goals.
  • Proficiency in Chinese and English, with proficiency in Cantonese or Putonghua a plus.
