The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology is seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to fill the position of Senior Technical Officer. The appointee will be responsible for overseeing the technical operations of key research laboratories, ensuring that they are functional and safe to use.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Instrumentation and Equipment Management: Perform regular calibrations and maintenance on stationary analytical instruments and engineering equipment to ensure they are functional and safe to use.
  • Procurement and Supply Chain Management: Liaise with internal and external parties to procure relevant instruments, equipment, and consumables to support core projects and research.
  • Technical Support and Advice: Provide technical support and advice to research staff and postgraduate students in their related research work.
  • Safety and Risk Management: Establish and maintain safety documentation, including risk assessments, safety audits, and standard operating procedures for laboratory and field activities.
  • Ad Hoc Tasks: Perform ad hoc tasks as assigned by management.

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent with at least 5 years of post-qualification experience in higher education sector.
  • Experience: Experience in supervising technicians and managing a research laboratory.
  • Language Skills: Good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Cantonese and Putonghua).
  • Skills: Good planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work proactively, innovatively, and as part of a team.
