Officer (Licensing & Registration) Established in January 2020, the Travel Industry Authority (TIA) is a statutory regulatory body established under the Travel Industry Ordinance (Cap. 634). It is primarily responsible for the licensing and regulation of travel agents, tourist guides and tour escorts. TIA is also responsible for promoting the integrity, competence and professionalism of the travel industry practitioners and regulating shops that inbound tour groups are arranged to patronise. In addition, it is responsible for managing the Travel Industry Compensation Fund which provides protection for outbound travellers purchasing outbound packages. Members of TIA are appointed by the Chief Executive in accordance with the Ordinance. TIA is to consist of the Chairperson, the Vice-chairperson (the Commissioner for Tourism) and not more than 28 ordinary members from various sectors of Hong Kong. With the implementation of the new regulatory regime under the Ordinance, TIA takes over the regulatory and licensing functions from the Travel Industry Council of Hong Kong and former Travel Agents Registry. Key Responsibilities Implement mechanisms and procedures to perform the licensing and other functions of the Travel Industry Authority (TIA) in respect of travel agents, tourist guides and tour escorts under the Travel Industry Ordinance (Cap. 634). Assist in handling matters relating to the issue and renewal of licences for travel agents, tourist guides and tour escorts. Assist in the registration of Mainland inbound tour groups. Assist in the implementation of an administrative scheme for regulating shops that inbound tour groups are arranged to patronise. Assist in handling enquiries and liaising with licensees and applicants. Assist in the management of physical and electronic documents and records. Assist in providing secretariat support to the relevant committees. Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisors. Requirements Holder of a university degree with no less than 4 years of work experience, or holder of a Higher Diploma/Associate Degree with no less than 6 years of work experience. Experience in licensing or regulatory matters is an advantage. Good command of written and spoken Chinese and English, with proficiency in Putonghua an advantage. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel as well as Chinese word processing. Responsible, self‑motivated, mature and able to work independently in a start‑up environment. Experience in the travel industry is an advantage, but not necessary. Candidates with lower qualifications or less experience may be considered for the position of Assistant Officer.
