Position Overview
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is seeking a dedicated, self-driven, and highly skilled individual to assume the role of Senior Technical Officer. The selected candidate will be responsible for overseeing the technical functions of essential research laboratories involved in engineering projects by adhering to established operating procedures, implementing best laboratory practices, and effectively managing laboratory emergencies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducting routine calibrations and maintenance on analytical instruments (e.g., EPR, HPLC, TOC, IC, etc.) and engineering apparatus to ensure their operational efficiency and safety;
- Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders and suppliers to acquire necessary instruments, equipment, and consumables to support core research initiatives;
- Offering expert advice and technical assistance to research personnel and postgraduate students in their respective research endeavors;
- Developing and maintaining safety documentation, including risk assessments, safety audits, and standard operating procedures for laboratory and field operations;
- Implementing new safety protocols and providing guidance to research staff and students as needed;
- Carrying out additional tasks as assigned by management.
Applicants should possess a bachelor's degree or equivalent, along with a minimum of 5 years of post-qualification experience in the higher education sector, including supervisory experience with technicians and laboratory management. The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency in both written and spoken English and Chinese (including Cantonese and Putonghua), alongside strong planning, analytical, and problem-solving abilities. The appointee is expected to be proactive, innovative, detail-oriented, well-organized, and a collaborative team member.
Contract Duration: 2 years, renewable
Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, with fringe benefits including annual leave, medical, and dental coverage. A gratuity will be awarded upon successful contract completion.
