Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Underwriting Manager to join our team at Reinsurance Group of America. As an Underwriting Manager, you will play a pivotal role in handling case underwriting, driving product development initiatives, and delivering exceptional client support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Case Underwriting
    • Conduct thorough underwriting assessments in alignment with our underwriting philosophy and agreed service standards, ensuring consistent delivery of high-quality case underwriting services.
    • Make sound underwriting decisions within established authority limits and escalate cases requiring further review to senior underwriters or management.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of underwriting decisions, correspondence, and other pertinent information.
  • Product Development and Business Development
    • Demonstrate a foundational understanding of underwriting rules and regulations in product development, encompassing underwriting principles, risk assessment methodologies, and market dynamics.
    • Support any assigned work to provide inputs for product design, policy provisions, treaties, business development proposals, and underwriting guidelines, initiatives, campaigns, and related requests in a timely manner to help develop business.
    • Assist managers in regular assessment of our underwriting guidelines, market benchmarks to proactively seek opportunities in offering robust, risk-prudent, and suitable underwriting enhancements for clients.
  • Research and Development
    • Assist in conducting comprehensive research and analysis on underwriting methodologies, risk assessment techniques, and data analytics to gain insights into industry trends and identify opportunities for process improvement.
    • Support data collection, organization, and preparation for analysis, ensuring data integrity and accuracy throughout the research process.
    • Provide efficient administrative and operational support to the underwriting team, including file maintenance, document organization, and correspondence management.
    • Continuously learn and apply underwriting principles, risk assessment techniques, and regulatory mandates to uphold best practices.
    • Assist superiors in monitoring the performance and effectiveness of GUM guidelines, actively contributing insights and recommendations for improvement.
  • Others
    • Assist and prepare materials, presentations, data analytics in client meetings, trainings, audits, and other events with internal or external clients.
    • Develop and maintain documentation related to underwriting administration processes, procedures, and user guides, Share Point sites.
    • Assist in development of underwriting and operational manual and continuous upgradation for intelligent and quick MIS.
    • Participate and support in system development, UAT, and supporting implementation of underwriting system.
    • Participate in development of any internal workflow systems, digital tools for efficiency within RGA underwriting function.
    • Develop versatile skills by participating in digital underwriting, product underwriting, data analytics, and other assigned projects.
    • Other duties may be required as assigned by the manager from time to time.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in risk management or a related field, with knowledge in the medical or healthcare field being advantageous.
  • Excellent understanding of underwriting, particularly in Life, Critical Illness, and Health insurance business.
  • Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in life underwriting.
  • Highly self-motivated, results-oriented, and customer-centric, with the ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative team player, capable of resolving issues and problems both internally and externally.
  • Well-organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks or projects simultaneously, including adapting to changing priorities.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, demonstrating fluency in language proficiency.
