Position Overview: The Lead Underwriting Manager will oversee the team responsible for delivering equitable and consistent underwriting decisions aligned with PHKL's Underwriting philosophy. This role aims to achieve robust mortality results that meet expectations while maintaining an unwavering focus on the client.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Guide underwriting teams in conducting assessments and delivering exceptional service to sales channels.
  • Evaluate team performance to ensure adherence to service level agreements (SLAs) while maintaining high-quality standards throughout the underwriting process.
  • Conduct risk assessments on underwriting cases within the scope of personal underwriting authority.
  • Review cases proposed by junior underwriters and provide mentorship for their professional development.
  • Contribute to the team’s evolution into a Centre of Competence in risk selection, offering training and support to new team members.
  • Engage in projects and collaborate with various stakeholders to refine and enhance existing underwriting processes, product development, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Promote a Culture of Compliance by ensuring thorough Client Due Diligence processes, including meticulous case documentation and record-keeping.
  • Develop and maintain proactive, positive relationships with sales channels to meet and exceed client expectations.
  • Monitor operational performance to ensure compliance with company policies and regulations, including regular audits.

Qualifications:

  • A proven track record in the underwriting domain with at least 10 years of relevant experience in life insurance underwriting, including 5 years in a supervisory capacity.
  • Professional credentials in Life Insurance, such as FLMI (Fellow, Life Management Institute).
  • Experience in product development, project management, business administration, and client relationship management.
  • Exceptional communication and negotiation abilities.
  • A university degree in any discipline.
  • Proficiency in English, Cantonese, and Putonghua.
  • Competence in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Chinese word processing.
