Senior Manager (IT and Digital Education) Dean of Science (Medical School) As announced by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, HKUST will establish Hong Kong's third medical school. We are now inviting applications from highly qualified, dedicated and motivated individuals for the post of Senior Manager (IT and Digital Education). The successful candidate will work closely with faculty and administrative leadership, playing a pivotal role in the areas of IT infrastructure, systems and applications, data management, and digital education and learning to support staff and students, ensuring smooth operation for academic, research, and administrative use. Appointment will initially be made under the School of Science, transferring to the School of Medicine upon its establishment. Key Responsibilities The appointee will be entrusted with key responsibilities that include, but are not limited to: Develop and execute an IT and digital learning strategy for the School, ensuring alignment with our ambitious educational and research goals. Establish and maintain policies and procedures related to Information Technology, data privacy and security, data resilience and recovery, ensuring compliance with University policies and local rules and regulations. Provide technical expertise to lead the planning, maintain and administer the whole IT system and digital learning architecture and ecosystem of the School to support staff and students, ensuring stable operation and timely updates. This includes academic, research, and administrative functions, and taking into consideration the unique features of a medical curriculum. Collaborate directly with faculty and academic leadership to integrate technology seamlessly into both pre‑clinical and clinical training, enhancing teaching, learning, and assessment. Act as a bridge between the School of Medicine, University IT, and affiliated teaching hospitals, ensuring seamless integration of clinical training systems. Provide technical expertise for relevant procurement / tender exercises, manage budgets, vendor relationships, and resources for all IT and digital learning initiatives as appropriate. Keep informed about the latest market trends in hardware and software development / emerging technologies in the digital learning space, and propose recommendations to senior leadership to maintain operational efficiency and support the delivery of a cutting‑edge medical curriculum. Ensure staff and students are well trained on the different IT platforms, and the provision of timely technical support to staff and students across various platforms and systems. Build, mentor, and lead a high‑performing team of IT professionals, digital designers / developers and technical specialists. Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor. Requirements Applicants should hold a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field, with a minimum of 8‑10 years of relevant post‑qualification work experience in IT system administration and support within a sizeable organization or tertiary institution within the education sector. A higher relevant degree and/or other professional qualification(s) is highly advantageous. Proven expertise in IT infrastructure, server environments, networking, security, information systems and digital learning, proficiency in relevant programming, web application development and administration, databases, audio‑visual projects, and service desk operations. Exceptional planning, organizational and management skills, with a strong sense of priorities and responsibility, coupled with excellent judgement, problem‑solving, and decision‑making abilities. Self‑initiative to manage competing tasks independently under tight schedules. Proficiency in project management and delivering IT projects on time is essential. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Proficiency in written and spoken English and Chinese (Cantonese and Putonghua). Work outside normal office hours, including weekends/public holidays or evenings may occasionally be required. Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided where applicable. Appointment will initially be made on a 2‑year contract with contract‑end gratuity, renewable subject to good performance and mutual agreement.
