The Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity for a senior energy, natural resources and infrastructure lawyer to join our award-winning Energy team, this position could be based in our Beijing or Hong Kong office. The team is busy, successful and growing and there are excellent career progression opportunities for the successful candidate.
You will be working closely with industry-leading Energy partners, Calvin Ho, Hilary Lau and Monica Sun, as well as other corporate energy, projects and infrastructure specialists across Asia and the wider Herbert Smith Freehills network.
Working with clients from a range of jurisdictions, focusing on energy, natural resources and infrastructure transactional matters in Asia, covering power (including renewables), LNG, oil and gas, mining, utilities (such as water and waste) and other critical infrastructure.
The role would be suited to a predominantly corporate transactional lawyer, with experience of M&A, joint ventures, commercial contracts (including supply, offtake and trading) and regulation in energy and infrastructure.
Project development experience is also desirable. However the team works closely with dedicated construction, procurement and finance specialists so these skills are not a pre-requisite.
Working closely with the team in Greater China, regionally and across the broader network.
Mentoring junior and mid-level associates in the team, and assisting with providing training and the development of knowhow.
Participation in business development alongside the senior team in the region focused on energy, mining and infrastructure.
Have at least 5 years' post qualification experience in the energy, natural resources or infrastructure sectors;
Be able to demonstrate excellent drafting, analytical and deal project management skills;
Be a confident, driven and collaborative individual;
Have experience of working as the lead associate on M&A, joint ventures, commercial contracts and regulation in energy and infrastructure;
Have a strong academic record;
Be enthusiastic, adaptable and industrious, with excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural skills;
Work effectively within tight timeframes, both collaboratively and autonomously;
Work well with people, including more junior team members who will depend on you for guidance;
Have excellent English and Chinese language skills (fluent written and spoken English and Chinese are required).
