M+ is a museum dedicated to collecting, exhibiting, and interpreting visual art, design and architecture, moving image, and Hong Kong visual culture of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. In Hong Kong’s West Kowloon Cultural District, we are building one of the largest museums of modern and contemporary visual culture in the world, with a bold ambition to establish ourselves as one of the world’s leading cultural institutions. Our aim is to create a new kind of museum that reflects our unique time and place, a museum that builds on Hong Kong’s historic balance of the local and international to define a distinctive and innovative voice for Asia’s twenty-first century.

This is a fixed-term contract position of 2-year with possibility for renewal subject to organisational needs and individual performance.

You will be responsible for:

  • assisting in project implementation and coordination of learning programmes that target younger students, children and families assisting in the development and delivery of educational content for family oriented drop-in activities, gallery tours and workshops with a focus on visual arts, design, architecture, moving image and exhibition content;

  • researching potential tour and workshop materials for family programmes and working with a small team of assistants on procurement and purchasing of items;

  • coaching the work of a small team of tour and workshop assistants, and supporting museum educators and learning curators to successfully deliver programmes to achieve desired outcomes;

  • assisting in conducting curatorial research in fields such as early childhood education, family relationships, visual culture learning, educators’ development, in-gallery learning pedagogy, and engagement strategies with an aim to offer a range of learning tools that allow for an expanded participation for museum audience;

  • assisting to the development and implementation of a programme assessment and evaluation plan to ensure outcomes are being met and issues are resolved;

  • assisting the Learning and Interpretation team in all events and activities with administrative support; and

  • on-site duties are required on selected weekends or public holidays to ensure smooth delivery of family programmes, subject to needs determined by the team.

You should:

  • possess a recognised university degree, preferably in, Early Childhood Education, Language and Communication, Psychology, Sociology, Cultural Management or equivalent; have at least 2 years of work experience in assisting implementation of large public events, educational programmes, preferably in an art and cultural organisation; experience and knowledge in child development, community work and public programmes is considered as an advantage;

  • have strong interest in audience engagement, children development and family life education;

  • a team player who has strong organisation skills, multi-tasking skills, detail-oriented, self-motivated and able to work independently and cooperatively with internal and external stakeholders in a fast-paced environment;

  • have strong project coordination skills, research skills, problem-solving skills as well as administrative skills;

  • have excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Chinese; experience in copywriting is considered as an advantage; and

  • be available to work some weekends and public holidays.
