The Hong Kong Palace Museum (HKPM) is a dedicated museum that showcases the exquisite artefacts from Palace Museum’s collections and collaborates with other museums in research, exhibitions, education and public programmes.  The museum comprises 7 800 square metres of gallery space for standing and special exhibitions on Palace Museum’s collections of paintings, calligraphy, antiquities and historical objects, as well as thematic displays on world cultures and civilisations. 

(This is a fixed-term contract position of 2-year with possibility for renewal subject to organisational needs and individual performance.)

You will be responsible for:

  • assisting the Museum’s Learning and Engagement Team to support the development and implementation of exhibition projects, learning and public engagement programmes;

  • contributing to the development, operation and logistics of a wide range of public programmes such as workshops, screenings, in-gallery activities, and educational contents such as audio guides and learning resources, in collaboration with the Museum’s Curatorial Department, artists, educators and other partners;

  • assisting the promotion and documentation of the programme, including drafting and editing promotional materials, arranging photography and videography;

  • contributing proactively and creatively to the planning and implementation of the Museum’s public engagement initiatives, including but not limited to conducting research on learning pedagogy and developing strong partnerships with artists, educators, parenting groups, local organisations and internal stakeholders;

  • assisting the Learning and Engagement Team to study visitors; evaluating exhibitions and education-related programmes at the Museum;

  • providing administrative and operational support in public learning events when needed; and

  • performing other duties as assigned by supervisor when deemed necessary.

You should:

  • possess a recognised university degree, preferably an MA in education, art education, museum studies, history, arts, design or equivalent;

  • preferably have 2 years of relevant experience in learning, interpretation, or public engagement programmes in art, cultural, or educational sectors; experiences in working with children and parents is an advantage;

  • possess the ability to work across the whole range of audiences such as adults, children and parents and act as a bridge between the Museum and the public;

  • have strong skills in project administration and coordination, interest and curiosity in Chinese art and culture; artmaking, performing arts, or museum learning;

  • be proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and familiar with programme logistics, event and front-of-house operation;

  • be a collaborative team player; have excellent ability and proactive attitude to work under pressure to meet deadlines and assist in multiple learning projects concurrently;

  • be able to work outside of office in hours, including weekends, evenings and public holidays if necessary for supporting programme operation; and

  • possess good interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills in both English and Chinese; knowledge of Putonghua is an advantage.
