Job Overview

eFinancialCareers seeks an experienced Compliance professional to lead our Japan Compliance practice and support the Compliance function in the Asia Pacific region.

About the Role

This senior position involves ensuring all activities adhere to local regulations and company policies. Key responsibilities include drafting, updating, and implementing compliance procedures, monitoring business operations, completing compliance reports, and fostering a culture of compliance within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Local Tasks:

  • Ensure adherence to relevant laws and regulations.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact with local regulatory bodies.
  • Support management in mitigating regulatory risks, including Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and terrorist financing.
  • Provide expert advice on AML due diligence, Politically Exposed Persons (PEP), and sanction checks.
  • Conduct regulatory analysis and advise on legislative changes.
  • Regularly review and update the Compliance Monitoring Programme.
  • Implement recommendations from audits and regulators.
  • Act as the Money Laundering Reporting Officer and Data Protection Officer.
  • Foster compliance awareness and training across the organization.
  • Support Board and Group Compliance Reporting.
  • Perform other assigned tasks as required.

Regional Tasks:

  • Assist in implementing the Global Compliance framework in APAC.
  • Support alignment of Compliance practices with new entities.
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will require:

  • 8+ years of experience in Compliance, with consideration for less experienced but highly competent candidates.
  • A recognized qualification in Compliance, Legal, Governance, or Risk is preferred.
  • Fluency in English and Japanese with strong communication skills.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • In-depth understanding of financial services regulation and AML guidelines.
  • The ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Organized, self-disciplined, and energetic with problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team, and to supervise juniors.
