Position Overview

The Senior Sustainability Manager plays a pivotal role in spearheading the execution and oversight of the Bank Group's financed emissions strategy, ensuring that the Bank of East Asia remains aligned with its net zero targets concerning financed emissions. This position is crucial for advancing the Bank Group's green and sustainable finance ("GSF") initiatives from an environmental stewardship perspective. The Senior Sustainability Manager will collaborate extensively with various business units and relevant colleagues in risk management, data governance, and other departments to develop and refine BEA's GSF framework, working towards the climate alignment of this framework.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with Group personnel, ESG consultants, and partners to implement the Group's financed emissions strategy.
  • Facilitate discussions and cooperation among teams in the Wholesale Banking Division, China Division, International Division, Treasury Markets Division, Risk Management Division, and other relevant units to further enhance the Bank's GSF strategy and framework.
  • Enhance internal capabilities by organizing training sessions for Relationship Managers and other frontline staff on GSF, promoting an ESG-conscious culture within the organization.
  • Support the Bank's three-tiered ESG governance framework as required.
  • Oversee the execution of BEA's financed emissions roadmap, which includes the climate financing strategy, customer transition plans, and the development of an ESG data platform.
  • Contribute to the formulation of the Bank's GSF strategy and framework, including the refinement of policies for high-emission sectors and identifying GSF opportunities within the Group's lending and investment portfolios.
  • Assist in the green assessment of new retail and wholesale banking products.
  • Monitor evolving regulations in the sustainability sector regarding GSF, as well as local, national, and international trends that may affect the Bank Group.
  • Lead the development of BEA's sustainable and transition finance framework for communication with clients and external stakeholders.
  • Participate in preparing responses to internal and external inquiries regarding BEA, particularly concerning its GSF initiatives.
  • Engage with stakeholders, including regulators and ESG analysts, as necessary.
  • Establish connections with key sustainability leaders in Hong Kong and beyond, who can provide insights and guidance to enhance BEA's performance in sustainability.
  • Represent the Bank in external GSF working groups and events as needed, sharing relevant information with colleagues for review and action.
Qualifications
  • University degree or further qualifications in Green Finance, Sustainability, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 10 years of substantial experience in the banking and finance sector, with a solid understanding of sustainability concepts and ESG risks, major social and environmental challenges, sustainability drivers in the banking industry, and related regulatory frameworks.
  • Strong analytical and research capabilities, along with a proactive approach to teamwork and the ability to work independently under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with project management experience.
  • Proficient in both spoken and written English and Chinese, including Cantonese and Mandarin.
