Electrical Systems Maintenance Specialist

Job Summary

The appointee will be responsible for overseeing the operation, upgrading, repair, and maintenance of electrical systems and system interfaces with other E&M systems installed in CityU campus buildings, staff quarters, student hostels, and off-campus areas.

Main duties include:

  • Ensuring electrical installations are in full compliance with statutory requirements;
  • Comprehending and monitoring the design, installation, testing, and commissioning, operation, and maintenance of electrical installations, including LV switchboards, emergency generators, UPS, local motor control panels, lighting, and power installations;
  • Carrying out periodic inspections, testing, and certification of electrical installations (WR2), E&M installations in laboratories, and BMS control for building services;
  • Managing E&M improvement works, including design, preparation of tender documents, budget estimation, contract administration, and technical submissions approval;
  • Preparing works orders to term contractors for minor repair works;
  • Exercising tight control on cost, quality of work, and project programs;
  • Supervising in-house staff and contractor staff for routine and emergency maintenance, repair, and inspection works;
  • Conducting failure investigations and report preparation;
  • Assisting in implementing energy-saving initiatives;
  • Assisting in safety and technical training;
  • Attending to emergency calls;
  • Performing any other duties as assigned.

The appointee is required to work on night shifts and perform on-call duties.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree/Higher Diploma/Higher Certificate in Building Services/Electrical Engineering or related disciplines;
  • A registered electrical worker (Grade B0), with a valid safety training course certificate (commonly known as "Green Card");
  • At least 10 years' hands-on experience in operation, maintenance, or project works related to electrical installation operation and maintenance;
  • Good knowledge of design and operation of electrical installations and systems in compliance with statutory regulations (e.g., EMSD, BD);
  • Good command of written and spoken English and Chinese; and proficiency in MS Office applications (including Word and Excel);
  • Strong sense of risk awareness and responsibility; commitment to teamwork; good interpersonal skills; capability to manage in-house and out-sourced works; and self-motivation with ability to work independently under pressure against tight schedules are required.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with substantial electrical work experience in higher education institutions.

Candidates with less relevant experience may be considered for appointment as Technical Officer.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a written test.

Salary and Conditions of Service

Remuneration package will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract; fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical, and dental schemes.
