Job Summary

The Director of Event Management is responsible for overseeing the functions of Event Management, including Event Planning, Banquets/Catering, Event Service, and Event Technology. This position ensures the implementation of the brand service strategy and brand initiatives, and is responsible for executing all property events with a seamless turnover from sales to operations and back to sales.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, and 4 years of experience in event management, food and beverage, sales and marketing, or a related field. Alternatively, a 2-year degree from an accredited university in Hotel and Restaurant Management, Hospitality, Business Administration, or a related major, and 2 years of experience in the same fields, is also acceptable.

Core Work Activities

Managing Event Management Operations and Budgets

The Director of Event Management will be responsible for researching and analyzing new products, pricing, and services of competition, and working with direct reports to review scheduled events and troubleshoot potential challenges/conflicts. They will also ensure that the property is apprised of all groups that will impact property operations, and work with the culinary team to ensure compliance with food handling and sanitation standards.

Leading Event Management Teams

The Director of Event Management will set expectations and hold event management leadership team accountable for desired service behaviors related to product and service delivery. They will communicate a clear and consistent message regarding departmental goals to produce desired results, and ensure integration of departmental goals in game plans.

Managing Profitability

The Director of Event Management will encourage calculated risk-taking to generate incremental revenue and deliver excellent guest service. They will work directly with major groups when high profile and financial impact will be significant, and develop working relationships with outside vendors and establish prices and service agreements to enhance the event experience and increase additional revenue opportunities for the property.

Ensuring Exceptional Customer Service

The Director of Event Management will create an atmosphere in all event management operations areas that meets or exceeds guest expectations. They will consult with customers to determine objectives and requirements for events, and review and respond to results of Event Satisfaction Survey.

Conducting Human Resources Activities

The Director of Event Management will work with Human Resources to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, and review property specific event operations annually and make appropriate adjustments. They will also review staffing levels to ensure that guest service and operational needs are met, and communicate and ensure departmental and property emergency procedures are executed when necessary.
