Position Overview

The Senior Sustainability Manager plays a pivotal role in steering the execution and oversight of the Bank Group's financed emissions strategy, ensuring that the Bank of East Asia adheres to its net zero targets concerning financed emissions. This position involves spearheading the advancement of the Bank Group's green and sustainable finance ("GSF") initiatives from a sustainability viewpoint. The Senior Sustainability Manager will collaborate closely with various business units and colleagues in risk management, data governance, and other departments to develop and refine BEA's GSF framework, aiming for climate alignment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with Group personnel, ESG consultants, and partners to implement the financed emissions strategy.
  • Facilitate discussions and partnerships among teams in the Wholesale Banking Division, China Division, International Division, Treasury Markets Division, Risk Management Division, and other relevant units to enhance the Bank's GSF strategy and framework.
  • Enhance internal capabilities by organizing training sessions for Relationship Managers and frontline staff on GSF, promoting an ESG-aware culture within the organization.
  • Assist in the support of the Bank's ESG governance framework as required.
  • Oversee the execution of BEA's financed emissions strategy, which includes the climate financing approach, customer transition plans, and the development of an ESG data platform.
  • Contribute to the formulation of the Bank's GSF strategy and framework, including the establishment of policies for high-emission sectors and identifying GSF opportunities within the Bank's lending and investment portfolios.
  • Assist in the green assessment of new retail and wholesale banking products.
  • Keep abreast of emerging regulations in sustainability concerning GSF and monitor trends at local, national, and international levels that may affect the Bank Group.
  • Lead the creation of BEA's sustainable and transition finance framework for communication with clients and external stakeholders.
  • Participate in preparing responses to internal and external inquiries regarding BEA's GSF initiatives.
  • Engage with stakeholders, including regulators and ESG analysts, as necessary.
  • Establish connections with key sustainability leaders in Hong Kong and beyond to gain insights that could enhance BEA's performance in sustainability.
  • Represent the Bank in external GSF working groups and events, sharing relevant information with colleagues for further action.
Qualifications
  • University degree or advanced qualification in Green Finance, Sustainability, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 10 years of substantial experience in the banking and finance sector, with a solid understanding of sustainability concepts and ESG risks, as well as major social and environmental challenges today.
  • Strong analytical and research capabilities, along with excellent teamwork, proactive problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently under pressure.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with project management expertise.
  • Proficient in both spoken and written English and Chinese, including Cantonese and Mandarin.
