Job Description

Overview

The Office of the CTO, Microsoft Asia, works closely with Corporate, Regional, and Area teams to address the most critical technical challenges and questions facing Microsoft customers in Asia. Specifically, OCTO focuses on the topmost technical customer priorities designated by the Asia Leadership team, which cannot be managed through regular field channels or require curation over multiple time horizons. The office of the CTO consists of four teams: Depth Engineering, Area Engineering, Redmond Engineering, and Operations and Programs.

The Area Engineering Team represents OCTO in the region, with one Area Engineering Lead (AEL) per Microsoft Area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the Area Technical Strategy, working closely with the Area Leadership Team and cross-functional teams.
  • Unblock complex technical challenges impacting customer adoption, deployment, or consumption of Microsoft cloud technologies in the Area.
  • Accelerate key initiatives, such as AI Design Wins, Security, and Proactive Resiliency, in collaboration with senior engineering and corporate resources.
  • Build and land capabilities to increase the technical IQ of the Area, partnering with Area and Corp stakeholders.
  • Landing of Engineering and Technical Initiatives: Partner with Corp and Area teams to accelerate the landing of key initiatives and cross-region priorities driven by CTO ASIA, Corp, or Asia HQ in the Area.
  • Maintain strategic relationships with key customers at CTO/CDO level to drive business outcomes and build a strong technical leaders' community across Asia.
  • Drive Regional Priorities and Efficiencies: Cross-region advocacy for key tech outcomes, drawing out regional themes, helping with cross-region and Corp prioritization and orchestration (e.g., reliability), and providing technical and non-technical subject matter expertise.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of engineering/technical experience as an architect, customer success lead, solution area or delivery expert, technical consultant, or in another cloud-related field. OR Bachelor's degree in engineering, Computer Science, or related field WITH 6+ years of industry experience related to technology.
  • Thorough understanding of Microsoft's AI and cloud strategies and capabilities.
  • Familiarity with first and third-party AI offerings, as well as with one or more solution areas such as Data, Cybersecurity, Azure Infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive large, complex programs that deliver high-quality outcomes for technical and business-related customer issues.
  • Experience in orchestrating across matrixed organizations, including at the senior-most levels within an organization.
  • Excellent interpersonal, group dynamic, and customer-facing communication skills, including the ability to communicate at a C-suite level.
  • Ability to work autonomously and independently within a regionally dispersed team environment.
  • Proficiency in English and local language required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 12+ years' experience as an architect, consultant, or technical delivery/solutions expert and/or
  • 3+ years of customer-facing experience in a technical capacity.
  • Experience in Azure Open AI, Fabric, Cloud-scale solution architecture, or Software development.
  • Experience in and/or significant knowledge of the Digital Natives space is a plus.
  • Prior experience in formal or informal leadership positions.
  • Knowledge of the competitive environment for Microsoft in the region.
  • Bachelor's or higher degree or equivalent industry experience.
