The Hong Kong Palace Museum is committed to preserving and showcasing the rich cultural heritage of China. We are seeking a highly skilled Cultural Heritage Preservation Specialist to join our team.

As a Cultural Heritage Preservation Specialist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the long-term preservation and conservation of our museum's collections. This includes performing conservation work, such as examination, assessment, research, treatment, and documentation of objects, as well as preparation of objects for exhibition.

You will be responsible for:

  • Maintaining a clean and stable gallery environment to prevent damage to objects;
  • Handling exhibition-related conservation work, including condition reports and courier trips;
  • Advising on climate control, packing materials, display duration, and methods;
  • Conducting research and contributing to the field of conservation and scientific research;
  • Co-organizing workshops, symposia, and other scholarly projects;
  • Collaborating with the learning and engagement team to develop public conservation education programs;
  • Developing and maintaining guidelines, policies, standards, and procedures for collection care and loan management;
  • Maintaining a safe and efficient conservation studio, including research and procurement of special equipment;
  • Assisting in budget development and monitoring expenditures;
  • Working closely with curators, registrars, exhibition managers, designers, security officers, facility managers, and external stakeholders to ensure proper collection care and safety;
  • Providing training and advice to colleagues and external partners;
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

To succeed in this role, you will require:

  • A master's degree in conservation or conservation science, or equivalent qualifications;
  • At least 5 years of verifiable museum conservation experience, beyond the degree level;
  • Expert knowledge of conservation techniques, materials, and equipment;
  • Familiarity with environmental and handling requirements for object storage, exhibition, and travel;
  • Extensive experience with exhibition-related conservation matters;
  • A proven track record of professional accomplishments in conservation and scientific research, including publications, conference papers, and research projects;
  • Excellent organizational, diplomatic, and negotiation skills, with attention to detail and accuracy;
  • A strong network in the field of conservation and scientific research, preferably with international institutions and collections;
  • Proficiency in English, with Cantonese and/or Putonghua being an asset.

We offer a competitive salary range of HKD 540,000 - HKD 720,000 per annum, depending on experience, plus benefits and opportunities for professional growth and development.
