Manager, Ops, Cheque Processing – 24 month contract with HSBC This role is part of HSBC Operations, Services and Technology, providing operational and technical support to our global businesses. The Manager will oversee international and domestic cheque processing, ensuring that cheques are cleared before the Hong Kong Interbank Clearing Ltd cut‑off time and that internal offline posting is completed on schedule. The role involves coordinating projects, allocating resources, monitoring team performance, and leading initiatives to improve efficiency and customer experience. Responsibilities Supervise and support international cheque processing to ensure service quality and proper operation. Manage the Hong Kong cheque team and monitor the performance of the offshore cheque team. Investigate, escalte to management and apply remedies for operational issues and incidents in a timely manner (including exceptional cases and cheque investigations). Reconcile suspense accounts and monitor them. Provide accurate MI reports and management reporting in a timely manner; analyse the reports to identify under‑performing areas. Support the management and mitigation of operational risk by identifying, assessing, mitigating and controlling operational risk of cheque processes. Raise awareness of financial crime activities relating to cheques and reduce potential fraud loss. Support the planning and execution of business continuity and contingency plans and perform regular contingency drill exercises in accordance with HSBC and regulatory requirements. Ensure operations are compliant with HSBC FIM, regulatory standards and audit requirements, and fulfill all control requirements via continuous review of working procedures. Support all streamlining initiatives / projects from planning to implementation for cheque operations. Contribute to operational efficiency, productivity improvement and customer experience, and manage ad‑hoc process changes as required. Plan and manage the implementation of change to ensure business benefits are realized and that the transition from current state to target state is smooth. Control total number of operational loss and value; effectively manage risks and controls. Improve customer experience through automation, standardisation and exceptional service delivery. Contribute to the motivation of staff. Lead and effectively manage the team and third‑party suppliers even under exceptional situations. Qualifications A university graduate with a degree in Business, IT, Finance, or a related discipline. 8+ years of related experience, including a team leadership role. Proven job knowledge on cheque related processes. Proven experience motivating a team to deliver exceptional performance and long‑term results. Stakeholder and third‑party management experience. Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with stakeholders. Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills. Ability to manage timelines and individuals under pressure. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Promote and lead best practice in risk and compliance management.
