Launched in 1997, the China Daily Hong Kong Edition offers a unique local perspective that has become essential reading for decision-makers, including HKSAR government officials, CEOs and senior executives, scholars and academics in Hong Kong and Macau.

The China Daily Hong Kong Edition is recognized by both the newspaper industry and readers for its exceptional journalism and outstanding reporting. China Daily was a frequent winner at the most recent “Hong Kong News Awards” organized by the Newspaper Society of Hong Kong. Since 2010, The Hong Kong Edition has been honored every year at the “Hong Kong News Awards”, winning a current total of 124 awards.

In order to manage the development and its integrated revenue growth across China Daily media products, we are now looking for qualified candidates in Hong Kong to fill the following position:

Reporter / Senior Reporter

Responsibilities:

  • Cover HK and Greater Bay Area news, produce videos and content for both the newspaper and digital edition.
  • Pitch story ideas, feature writing, conduct interviews and related research on topics to provide context.
  • Build contacts & strengthen the knowledge and networking in assigned beats.
  • Have the creativity to write engagingly, to propose suitable projects that are attractive for print and online viewers.
  • Maintain close contact with news desk about work-related information and story progress.
  • Be a good team player and work with other colleagues such as photographers, videographers and designers to initiate small group projects.
  • Follow China Daily style in writing copies and help spot and prevent errors.
  • Work on weekends or in emergency situations when required.
  • Assist with ad-hoc assignments the department is responsible for.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree or above in Journalism or media communication or related disciplines from a reputable university.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in news media preferably English news media. Candidates with more experience can be considered as Senior Multimedia Reporter.
  • Familiar with public affairs and economy of Hong Kong and Chinese Mainland.
  • Keen understanding of Hong Kong's governance structure & the role of functional constituencies.
  • Familiar with social media networks, such as Facebook.
  • Proficiency in both written and spoken English and Chinese. Clarity of expression in written English is essential.
  • Good command of reporting and writing skills with strong news sense and able to turn stories around quickly.
  • An organized & logical thinker who can interact proactively with the Data Journalism Team.
  • Detail-minded with high sense of responsibility, able to work independently and under pressure.
  • Outgoing personality, energetic, with good interpersonal skills.
