Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Lead News Reporter to join our team in Hong Kong.

About the Role

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in news reporting, with a proven track record of producing high-quality content. The successful candidate will be responsible for covering local and regional news, producing engaging video and written content, and developing story ideas that drive engagement with our audience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Cover Hong Kong and Greater Bay Area news, creating compelling stories and videos for both print and digital editions.
  • Pitch innovative story ideas, conduct interviews, and conduct research to provide context for features.
  • Develop relationships with key contacts in assigned beats, expanding knowledge and networking in the region.
  • Produce engaging, well-written content that resonates with readers and viewers.
  • Maintain close communication with the news desk about work progress and relevant information.
  • Collaborate with colleagues from various departments, including photographers, videographers, and designers, on small group projects.
  • Ensure all written content adheres to China Daily style guidelines and is free of errors.
  • Work flexible hours, including weekends or emergency situations as required.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Journalism or related fields from a reputable university.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in news media, preferably in English language publications.
  • Familiarity with public affairs and economy of Hong Kong and Chinese Mainland.
  • Strong understanding of Hong Kong's governance structure and functional constituencies.
  • Proficiency in social media networks, including Facebook.
  • Excellent written and spoken English and Chinese skills, with clarity of expression essential.
  • Strong reporting and writing skills, with a keen sense of news judgment and ability to turn stories quickly.
  • Organized and logical thinker, able to interact effectively with data journalists.
  • Detail-oriented, with a high sense of responsibility and ability to work independently under pressure.
  • Outgoing personality, energetic, and possessing good interpersonal skills.
What We Offer

We offer an attractive salary of HKD 45,000 - HKD 60,000 per month, depending on experience, along with comprehensive benefits.
