Assistant Curator (Research) The Hong Kong Palace Museum (HKPM) is a dedicated museum that showcases the exquisite artefacts from Palace Museum’s collections and collaborates with other museums in research, exhibitions, education and public programmes. The museum comprises 7 800 square metres of gallery space for standing and special exhibitions on Palace Museum’s collections of paintings, calligraphy, antiquities and historical objects, as well as thematic displays on world cultures and civilisations. About the Role The Assistant Curator (Research) will work primarily on projects associated with the Hong Kong Palace Museum – Hong Kong Polytechnic University Joint Chinese Textile Centre ("Centre") as well as the Chris Hall Collection ("Collection"). Reporting to the Deputy Director, Curatorial, Collection and Programming, the role offers opportunities to engage in collection research, exhibition planning, scholarly events, publication, collection care, conservation and other projects related to the Centre and the Collection. Responsibilities Supporting the planning and implementation of the Centre’s activities, including conferences, workshops, lectures, study visits and publications. Conducting research to support the above activities. Serving as the primary point of contact for content‑related matters between HKPM and Hong Kong Polytechnic University, organising meetings, taking notes and following up on action items, managing project calendars and preparing regular reports. Delivering talks and conducting training sessions to HKPM, PolyU teams, docents and the general public. Facilitating communication between the Centre and sponsors, donors and other stakeholders. Coordinating with the Museum’s Curatorial Affairs, Conservation and Collection, Publishing and Editorial, Learning and Engagement teams and other teams. Helping to build a network of professors, curators, donors and sponsors. Performing any other duties reasonably assigned by HKPM. Qualifications Possess a MA degree in Chinese art history, archaeology, conservation/conservation science, material culture, Chinese history or a related discipline; a doctoral degree is preferred. Preferably with demonstrable research or practical work experience on Chinese historical textiles. Preferably have 1 year or more of experience in project/event management or coordination for teaching, conferences, lectures, editorial and publishing, study trips in museums, universities or other cultural and educational institutions. Excellent writing skills and proficiency in both written and spoken English and Chinese. Proficiency in office software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat. Good problem‑solving and communication skills. Attention to detail, self‑motivation and organisational abilities. Availability and willingness to work irregular hours, including weekends and public holidays, for events if necessary. Contract This is a fixed‑term contract position of 2 years with the possibility for renewal subject to organisational needs and individual performance.
