Executive Loss Adjuster, Construction
The Role
(Candidates interested in relocating to Hong Kong will be considered.)
Charles Taylor Adjusting (CTA) enjoys a global leadership position in construction and engineering claims, and our global team of dedicated C&E adjusters are leading industry professionals who are nominated on hundreds of projects or accounts, many of these are world scale, including underground railways, airports, container ports, power plants (CCGT, coal, hydro, nuclear and renewables), petrochemical plants, waste treatment plants, residential and commercial tower blocks, hotels and casinos, and land reclamations. In the Asia-Pacific region, our team of dedicated C&E adjusters has increased from 3 adjusters to 30 within six years.
Our CTA Hong Kong C&E team has enjoyed year on year growth since its establishment in 2019. Although the team was established only five years ago, the core team has provided Hong Kong, Macau and the wider Asia Pacific region with expert specialist loss adjusting services for complex and technical insurance claims arising from the building construction, civil engineering, and energy sectors for over 30 years.
CTA is committed to the development of the next generation of loss adjusters. Our goal is to provide the successful candidate with market leading training in the investigation and reporting of C&E claims, with the role suited to a loss adjuster with a construction education / background and experience in commercial property claims who wishes to evolve into a dedicated specialist C&E adjuster. In this role, you will primarily handle claims in the Building, Construction, Power and Industrial areas of construction and engineering, which requires the involvement of adjusters skilled both in construction and insurance. As many of the claims are technically complex, the highest level of team expertise is required to meet the demands of these losses.
Our prime objective is to provide an expedient, comprehensive and technically competent professional service in response to the instructions from national and international insurance companies to handle C&E claims. The role will require you to provide an efficient and high-quality claims handling service. In this role, you will handle all aspects of C&E claims and other consultancy assignments for Hong Kong, Singaporean and London-based underwriters.
Our adjusters receive claim details and instructions from senior members of the C&E team. When they arrive at the construction site, they must review the claim using discretion and the ability to prioritise information. At the end of the site visit, they must agree an action plan with the client and provide guidance on the policy coverage to the claim. Although loss adjusters spend time travelling in Hong Kong and visiting construction sites, this is primarily an office-based role and our adjusters will usually spend 3-4 days per week as dedicated office time working in the Hong Kong office where they retain and manage a caseload of claims from inception through to completion.
A large part of the role is therefore office based where the loss adjuster will incorporate their findings into reports, compiled in a format which offers an objective and concise analysis of each loss. You will be providing direct support to contractors / subcontractors / third party claimants etc. guiding them through the various stages of the claim. This will involve the collating and analysis of claim supporting documents to validate the remedial works / costs and provide settlement proposals in accordance with the terms and conditions of the insurance policy.
Key Responsibilities
To perform a loss adjusting function in respect of new claims and those already handled in the offices which have been delegated by Directors. This will involve, but not be limited to: - Receiving and acknowledging new claims instructions Managing and coordinating claims in a timely and professional manner within agreed SLA’s Undertaking site visits and meeting with Insurers, Reinsurers, Brokers, Claimants, Insureds and other interested parties Preparing preliminary reports commenting in detail on all aspects of the claim including legal and policy liability considerations, potential quantum and future actions Instructing and controlling surveyors, lawyers, forensic scientists and other experts as necessary Communicating regularly with all interested parties, calculating and approving interim payments, preparing interim reports and other communications Calculating, negotiating and agreeing settlement of claims, and preparing accurate final reports. To assist in and develop the effective marketing of CTA Construction Team and wider P&C Department. This will include, but not be limited to: - Developing working relationships with existing Clients Helping to identify and plan approaches to new Clients Hosting and attending networking events outside of office hours Assisting in the preparation and delivery of presentations and tenders to Clients and potential Clients Assisting others with their marketing functions. As requested by your Line Manager or relevant Director, to perform reasonable ad hoc duties within the Job Holder’s capabilities. Demonstrate and champion Charles Taylor Values by ensuring Agility, Integrity, Care, and Accountability and Collaboration.
