Department/ Role overview

Ashurst's global Knowledge & Expertise teams are dedicated to ensuring the highest levels of lawyer insight, capability and delivery. This Knowledge & Expertise role, based in our Hong Kong office, focuses on legal learning. The role primarily manages the internal training function for the Hong Kong office and the firm's compliance with the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) / Risk Management Education (RME) requirements set out by the Law Society of Hong Kong (LawSoc). The role involves collaboration with Knowledge & Expertise and other colleagues across APAC and globally.

Main responsibilities

Responsible for all matters relating to Hong Kong CPD / RME accreditation for both internal and external / client training, including: liaising with the LawSoc regarding CPD / RME applications, notifying LawSoc of any changes, tracking attendance / evaluation of training and submitting details to the LawSoc; ensuring the firm's / colleagues' awareness and compliance with Hong Kong CPD / RME requirements; and managing the annual renewal of the firm's accreditation as a Hong Kong CPD / RME course provider. Organising internal training sessions, including:
liaising with presenters and relevant parties; and managing and coordinating the logistics for each training session, including circulating invitations and handling room and IT set-up, printing hand-outs, and any food & beverage requests. Managing and maintaining Hong Kong CPD / RME records for the firm and for all solicitors, trainee solicitors, and registered foreign lawyersin the Hong Kong office, including:
updating CPD / RME records through the firm's IT system for learning and development; handling any CPD / RME pro-rated requirements and suspension / resumption / exemption arrangements; monitoring CPD / RME records and circulating reminders to staff to fulfill their CPD / RME requirements; and providing assistance relating to the firm's IT system for learning and development (including any upgrades / changes to such system). Attending to all queries regarding Hong Kong CPD / RME accreditation, Hong Kong CPD / RME matters and Ashurst CPD matters, including managing the Asia Expertise Team email inbox. Maintaining relevant intranet pages / systems relating to training and Hong Kong CPD / RME requirements, including uploading materials (including any slides and videos) from internal / external training sessions to the firm's system. Providing ancillary support to assist US-qualified lawyers based in the Hong Kong office to obtain US continuing legal education ( CLE ) points. Providing ancillary support to Expertise lawyers based in the Hong Kong office and other Knowledge & Expertise colleagues as required. Ensuring that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with the firm's regulatory requirements and internal policies.

Essential skills and experience

Strong organisational and communication skills, excellent attention to detail, and capability to plan and run events. Able to manage competing priorities, flexible and responsive. English and Cantonese required. Mandarin would be helpful but not essential. Strong skills in Excel, Word and PowerPoint and online/hybrid training tools such as Microsoft Teams and Zoom. Experience with working with a learning management system and reporting is desirable but not essential.
