About the Role
  • Provide comprehensive legal support to Consumer Banking Group ('CBG') and Private Banking ('PB'), encompassing but not limited to:
    • Manage legal risks arising from activities and operations undertaken by CBG & PB;
    • Offer critical risk assessments of transactions, structures, and new initiatives;
    • Review and advise on existing and new laws and regulations;
    • Review and negotiate contracts and agreements with CBG & PB counterparties;
    • Revisie customer-facing documentation;
    • Collaborate with relevant CBG & PB business units and support units to develop and maintain standard documentation templates for specific transactions, structures, products, or operations;
    • Work with CBG & PB business units and support units, as necessary, to develop and issue guidelines on specific matters to manage legal risks;
    • Assist in investigations, mediation, and complaints; and
    • Oversee key litigation by and against CBG & PB.
  • Manage CBG & PB's relationships with external law firms to ensure high-quality, practical, and succinct advice in a timely and cost-effective manner;
  • Participate in key projects and initiatives of CBG & PB;
  • Support CBG & PB Legal team members and other Legal team members, including Group Legal, on regional projects and initiatives;
  • Collaborate closely with Compliance and FCSS to manage DBS' regulatory risks;
  • E nsure valid and legally binding legal documents correctly reflecting intended rights and obligations within risk acceptance thresholds;
  • Effectively manage litigation;
  • Promote legal risk awareness across CBG & PB;
  • Maintain strong internal relationships, acting as a professional and value-adding partner with the business and support units;
  • Timely escalate significant legal and regulatory developments, incidents, and concerns to relevant parties and proactively find solutions;
  • Maintain good team spirit and working relationships with other team members.
Requirements
  • Law degree from a common law jurisdiction; Hong Kong qualified lawyer preferred;
  • A minimum of 3 years' relevant legal experience in the finance or banking industry from a law firm or financial institution;
  • Good knowledge of relevant banking, securities, and other financial services-related laws or regulations and operations, as well as knowledge of the different products and services offered by CBG & PB;
  • Excellent people management and communication skills;
  • Ability to build strategic working relationships with all business and support units as well as external regulators;
  • Good business focus with insights, innovation, and the ability to balance risks and controls and foster a risk-aware culture in the bank;
  • Strong sense of ownership with a growth mindset.
