Job Summary

The City University of Hong Kong is seeking a highly skilled Dairy Farm Officer to join our team. As a key member of our agricultural operations, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily activities of our dairy farm, ensuring the health and well-being of our livestock, and maintaining the highest standards of animal welfare and productivity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Animal Care and Management
    • Perform tasks as directed by the Farm Manager to ensure the smooth operation of the dairy farm.
    • Carry out routine milking and feeding rations to cattle, ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare.
    • Prepare Total Mixed Ration (TMR) as calculated by the Farm Manager and external nutritionist, to optimize animal nutrition and productivity.
    • Handle general livestock farming, including night checks, to ensure the health and well-being of our animals.
  • Record Keeping and Reporting
    • Maintain accurate and detailed records of animal health, productivity, and farm operations.
    • Provide regular reports to the Farm Manager and other stakeholders on farm performance and animal health.
  • Machinery Operation and Maintenance
    • Operate and maintain machinery for cleaning out and waste disposal, ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare and environmental sustainability.
  • Training and Supervision
    • Supervise students in animal handling and routine farm tasks during extramural farm study, providing guidance and support to ensure their safety and success.
  • Collaboration and Communication
    • Coordinate with colleagues to ensure seamless communication and collaboration on farm operations and animal care.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Animal Science or related disciplines with at least 2 years' experience, or Associate degree or Diploma in related disciplines with at least 7 years' working experience.
  • Good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua).
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good analytical and organizational skills.
  • Ability to foster collaboration, supervise, and motivate staff to work towards a common goal.
  • Strong commitment and ability to work under pressure.
