The Business and Financial Evaluation (BFE) Team is primarily responsible for performing initial and ongoing operational due diligence on hedge fund and asset management firms with whom Blackstone partners or invests. BFE evaluates firms based on all non-investment aspects of the business, focusing on operational, technology, and compliance risks associated with managing an alternative investment firm.

An Analyst is assigned due diligence coverage responsibilities for Blackstone's prospective and existing hedge fund investments. Through structured training, self-directed research and an apprenticeship-like model, an Analyst is expected to develop the technical knowledge required to carry out operational due diligence responsibilities for Blackstone's various investment platforms.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in initial and ongoing operational due diligence meetings with hedge fund managers with which Blackstone invests or is considering an investment
  • Monitor a sub-set of hedge fund managers active on Blackstone's investing platform on a continual basis. Collaborate with teammates to establish and carry out due diligence plans to maintain ongoing oversight
  • Review and analyze hedge fund manager materials including, but not limited to, due diligence questionnaires, marketing materials, investor communications, regulatory filings, audited financial statements, and various internal policies
  • Produce comprehensive operational due diligence reports and risk assessments
  • Present verbal or written business updates to internal and external stakeholders, including Blackstone Senior Management and investors, in a clear and professional manner
  • Perform due diligence on third-party fund administrators, technology consultants, compliance consultants, trading and operations software vendors and other service providers that support Blackstone's hedge fund managers
  • Review third-party background checks and other public record searches on investment subjects
  • Respond to client requests and inquiries regarding industry and investment manager-specific topics
  • Monitor industry trends and regulatory developments through industry seminars and self-directed research. Content should be shared with the BFE Team and incorporated into due diligence practices as appropriate. As needed, produce materials for internal and external distribution
  • Assist team members, Investment Strategy colleagues and Senior Management on special projects, such as research requests, benchmarking exercises and industry analyses

Qualifications:

Blackstone seeks to hire individuals who work well in a team-driven working group, are highly motivated, intelligent, have sound judgment and have demonstrated excellence in prior endeavors.

The successful candidate should have:

  • Preferred prior work experience includes financial, operational or compliance roles within a traditional or alternative asset management firm; financial or investment consulting; experience at a public accounting firm, hedge fund administrator, prime broker or law firm's alternative asset management practice
  • Knowledge of hedge fund structures, terms, operations, accounting, valuation, trade flow and regulatory/compliance topics
  • Strong professional written communication skills and experience with business writing
  • Strong verbal presentation skills
  • English fluency is required; additional Mandarin and/or Cantonese language skills are preferred
  • Exceptional leadership potential
  • Attention to detail, strong work ethic, self-motivation, proactivity and organizational skills
  • Team oriented
  • Candidate should be willing to travel occasionally (including internationally)
