Job Overview

The Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited is seeking an experienced professional to join the Finance Business Partner Team as a Director of Financial Strategy. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the financial planning, reporting, and analysis for a specific business division within the organization.

About the Role

This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires strong business acumen and at least 10 years of experience in financial planning & analysis or related finance function, preferably within the financial services industry. The ideal candidate will have experience in supporting IT divisions with large-scale, multi-year IT projects and possess a strong understanding of financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes, as well as project financial management.

Main Responsibilities

The Director of Financial Strategy will report to the Head of Financial Planning & Analysis and work closely with the Financial Planning & Analysis team. Key responsibilities include:
  • Acting as a trusted Finance partner to the divisional management in supporting their financial management and strategic decision making.
  • Managing the divisional monthly forecast and annual budget process by working closely with the management team to gather input, align on assumptions and underlying business drivers to provide accurate and reliable projections, and ensuring the divisional forecast and budget are prepared in line with the group process and timeline.
  • Conducting monthly variance analysis against budget and forecast, and assessing financial performance metrics with reference to underlying business drivers.
  • Effectively communicating financial variances and their implications to divisional senior management, HR, and other stakeholders to facilitate informed decision-making.
  • Understanding the division's projects spend profile and pipeline, assisting divisional management in projects prioritization based on financial and strategic impact.
  • Reviewing and monitoring the divisional projects spend forecast, supporting project managers in improving the accuracy of their forecasts, and conducting variance analysis.
  • Escalating major P&L and projects spend variances to the Corporate FP&A and Project Control teams, and following up on any required divisional actions.
  • Supporting divisional management in the execution of key financial processes, such as Quarterly Business Reviews, funding requests, expense approval, etc.
  • Ensuring the financial systems are maintained to accurately reflect the divisional financial hierarchy.

Requirements

To succeed in this role, you must possess strong business acumen and at least 10 years of experience in financial planning & analysis or related finance function, preferably within the financial services industry. A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required, with a professional accounting qualification (e.g., CPA, ACCA) being preferred. You should also possess excellent oral and written English communication skills, and ideally Cantonese and/or Putonghua language proficiency.
