Director, Investment Risk
Working within the Risk and Compliance, Enterprise Asset Management Team, this position plays a pivotal role in providing oversight and challenge of investment risk practices and initiatives across the General Account and Segregated Account assets of Sun Life in Asia.
The Director will be focused on Risk monitoring for operational management purposes and Operational Risk governance through delivery of updates to policies, operating guidelines, and reporting. The role will support the development and oversight of investment and risk policies and guidelines covering the Sun Life entities in Asia.
The Director will interact continuously with colleagues in our Asian investment functions and will develop close working relationships with the Regional teams, the Corporate Operational and Enterprise Risk Management Teams, SLC Risk, and SLC Investment Finance, as well as other professionals across the Company.
Main Accountabilities- Ensuring the program for the update and approval of Investment Risk policies and operating guidelines functions efficiently and meets the needs of all relevant stakeholders. Support the review of investment-related agreements.
- Investigate Operational Risk Events and recommend remediation actions and process improvements to close the control deficiency.
- Responsible for the production, consolidation, and reporting of investment risk and compliance-related management information, key risk indicators, and issue updates to provide a holistic perspective of risks across Investment operations and into applicable governance forums.
- Support the effective implementation of operational risk policies, review supplier relationship manager reports and inventories, model inventories, risk dashboards, and monitor risk limits, metrics, required risk processes, and controls.
- Support development, maintenance, and oversight of subsidiary and legal entity Investment Risk policies and Operating Guidelines (content, limits, authorities, etc.) and/or subsidiary operating guidelines.
- Provide oversight and challenge of existing risk management processes and ensure effective implementation of enhancements related to operational risk standards, Enterprise policies, and operating guidelines.
- Professional/financial designations (FCIA, CFA, CA, or equivalent)
- Financial services business experience (5+ years), with a background in risk management and investment management.
- Good knowledge of investment management processes.
- Good understanding of typical asset classes on an insurance company's General and Segregated Accounts.
- Ability to build strong working relationships across various functional areas, professions, and management levels.
- Analytical skills and mindset.
- Strong written and verbal communication.
