About the Role

The Technical Innovation Specialist will play a key role in driving the development of new biomedical technologies at Advanced Biomedical Instrumentation Centre Limited. This includes managing the IP assets, technology transfer and other matters relating to the inventions of ABIC.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Collaborate with patent attorneys to prepare, file, and prosecute patent applications, manage patent portfolios, and ensure timely renewals.
  2. Handle ABIC's intellectual property assets, including patents, trademarks, datasets, copyrights, and trade secrets, and operate mechanisms for their protection and management.
  3. Facilitate the transfer of technology from research to commercial applications through licensing agreements, research contracts, joint-laboratory agreements, and other mechanisms.
  4. Compile reports to university management teams, funding agencies and government departments.
  5. Write, edit, review and maintain relevant legal documents.
  6. Keep track of income generation, accounts receivables, and cost incurred relating to the use of ABIC's IP assets, such as royalties, spin-off company equities, milestone payments, etc.
  7. Conduct due diligence in connection with transactions, and ensure compliance with relevant policies, laws and regulations.
  8. Provide training to ABIC members on IP-related matters.
  9. Handle other relevant tasks as assigned by supervisor(s).

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree or above in a relevant field, such as life science, medical engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Highly familiar with legal document handling, and excellent in professional business English writing.
  • A diploma/ professional certificate/ postgraduate qualification in intellectual property laws would be highly advantageous.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in intellectual property management, technology transfer, or a related field, preferably within a university or research institution setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in handling diverse IP portfolios, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, datasets, and trade secrets.
  • Familiarity with relevant IP laws, regulations, government policies, and university best practices in Hong Kong and internationally.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English and Chinese is essential.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • May require collaborative working modes in different labs and physical locations.
