The West Kowloon Cultural District Authority is seeking an accomplished professional to assume the role of Lead Curator, Chinese Art and Culture Programs. This position will play a pivotal part in shaping our institution's curatorial vision for Chinese art and culture.

The Hong Kong Palace Museum (HKPM) serves as a dedicated museum that showcases exquisite artefacts from the Palace Museum's collections. It collaborates with other museums in research, exhibitions, education, and public programs. The museum spans 7,800 square meters of gallery space, hosting standing and special exhibitions on Palace Museum collections, as well as thematic displays on world cultures and civilizations.

Job Description

We are looking for an exceptional individual to oversee the planning and implementation of HKPM's Chinese object study training program. Responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the development and execution of workshops, lectures, and study visits;
  • Managing day-to-day administrative tasks, such as preparing project memos, plans, emails, and letters; interim reports and regular reports; coordinating local and international travels, applying for visas, organizing meetings;
  • Preparing and monitoring budgets and tracking project financials, including actual costs against budgets, and providing analysis and reports; processing reimbursement claims;
  • Coordinating with various teams, including Curatorial Affairs, Conservation, Collection, Learning, and Engagement;
  • Collaborating with the Learning and Engagement team to plan and implement public-facing projects related to the HKPM's Chinese object study training program;
  • Serving as a liaison between the HKPM and stakeholders, including sponsors;
  • Building relationships with scholars, professors, university graduate students, sponsors, and other key partners;
  • Performing other duties to support Curatorial Affairs and other sections, as assigned by the supervisor when necessary.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Candidates should possess:

  • A recognized university degree in a relevant field, preferably in Chinese art history, archaeology, heritage management, conservation science, material culture, or a related discipline;
  • Strong interests in Chinese art and culture, along with knowledge about working directly with art objects in museums, universities, or other cultural institutions;
  • Preferably, at least 5 years of experience in conducting research, teaching, or project/event management, preferably in roles involving teaching/curriculum design, conferences, lectures, study trips, or similar activities in museums, galleries, universities, or cultural institutions;
  • Proficiency in office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat;
  • Good problem-solving skills, effective communication, and strong organizational abilities;
  • Proficiency in both written and spoken English and Chinese, with a good command of Putonghua;
  • Self-motivation, attention to detail, and flexibility to work irregular hours, including weekends and public holidays if necessary.
