SMBC Group is seeking a seasoned Data Governance Strategist to join our team. This role will be responsible for leading the implementation of a comprehensive data governance framework across the organization.

About the Role

As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing policies, guidelines, procedures, and standards to promote data quality and accountability throughout the organization.

Responsibilities:
  • Formulate and implement a comprehensive data governance strategy, including policies, guidelines, procedures, and standards, to ensure clear accountability and ownership of data assets throughout the organization.
  • Coordinate discussions between stakeholders regarding data governance and quality requirements, and address any related issues or gaps.
  • Establish and maintain a data governance framework that encompasses data classifications, metadata management, data lineage, and data quality controls.
  • Manage and maintain all data governance-related documentation, including data dictionaries and definitions.
  • Foster adoption of data governance tools, processes, standards, and procedures throughout the organization.
  • Develop metrics and reports to measure key performance indicators, such as data quality, accuracy, and completeness.
Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A degree in a related field, preferably with qualifications in data governance and management.
  • 4-5 years of direct experience in data governance and management, preferably in a consulting firm serving banks and financial institutions.
  • Knowledge of related ordinances, such as the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) regulations, and trends in data policy and procedures.
  • Multitasking and attention to detail.
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • A high sense of responsibility and reliability.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills, with proficiency in English, Cantonese, and Japanese (a plus).
Salary Range:

This position comes with an estimated annual salary of HKD 1,500,000 - HKD 2,000,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
