Cloud Infrastructure Engineer for HSBC Digital Business Services

HSBC Digital Business Services is a pivotal part of the Group, providing essential operational and technical support to our global businesses and helping improve customer service and efficiency.

We are seeking an experienced Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to join our team in this pivotal role. The ideal candidate will have experience building a range of services in a cloud service provider (ideally GCP) and possess expert understanding of DevOps principles and Infrastructure as a Code concepts and techniques.

The salary for this position is estimated to be around $120,000 per year, based on industry standards for similar roles in the United States.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and manage the HSBC GCP foundation platform to enable application deployments
  • Engineer solutions on GCP foundation platform using Infrastructure As Code methods (Terraform)
  • Integrate, configure, deploy and manage centrally provided common cloud services (IAM, networking, logging, Operating systems, Containers)
  • Manage SDN in GCP
  • Consume centrally agreed base HSBC Hardened OS (Linux and Windows)
  • Evaluate compliance with centrally defined Security and Operational risk standards (Network, Firewall, OS, Logging, Monitoring, Availability, Resiliency)
  • Design and implement continuous integration (CI), continuous delivery (CD) and continuous testing activities
  • Engineering activities to implement patches provided centrally
  • Support non-functional testing
  • Update support and operational documentation as required
  • Fault find and support Applications teams
  • Evaluate the implementation of good Change management practice as specified by central standards
  • Provide impact assessments when requested for changes proposed on HSBC GCP core platform
  • On a rotational basis provide out-of-hours support as part of our 24 x 7 coverage

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience of building a range of services in a cloud service provider (ideally GCP)
  • Expert understanding of DevOps principles and Infrastructure as a Code concepts and techniques
  • Strong understanding of CI/CD and available tools
  • Experience configuring SDN within a CSP (VPC's, XPN etc.)
  • Good understanding of physical networks (SubNets, Natting, Routing)
  • Security and Compliance, IAM (ADFS, OAuth) and cloud compliance/auditing/monitoring tools
  • Customer/stakeholder focus. Ability to build strong relationships with Application teams, cross-functional IT and global/local IT teams
  • Leadership and teamwork skills - Collaborate in an agile environment with DevOps application 'pods' to provide GCP specific capability/skills required to deliver the service
  • Operational effectiveness - Deliver solutions that align to approved design patterns and security standards
  • Risk management effectiveness
  • Excellent programming skills in at least one of the following languages: Python, Ruby, Java, JavaScript, Go, Groovy, Scala
  • Experienced in full automation and configuration management
  • A track record of constantly looking for ways to do things better and an excellent understanding of the mechanism necessary to successfully implement change
  • Set and achieved challenging short, medium, and long-term goals which exceeded the standards in their field
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills; ability to communicate complex information effectively to varied audiences
  • Built effective networks across business areas, developing relationships based on mutual trust and encouraging others to do the same
  • A successful track record of delivering complex projects and/or programmes, utilizing appropriate techniques and tools to ensure and measure success
