The Opportunity We are looking for an accomplished Compliance Officer ("C O ") and Money Laundering Reporting Officer ("MLRO") (collectively "C O /MLRO") to join our Compliance Team as part of our financial services business in Hong Kong. Key Duties The C O /MLRO reports into the Compliance Officer and MLRO for MaplesFS in Singapore. Collectively they support the regional Head of Compliance for Asia in Maples & Calder; the Chief Compliance Officer ("CCO") for MaplesFS; with a local reporting line to the Board s of M aples Fund Services (Asia) Limited ("MFA") and Maples Fiduciary Services (Hong Kong) Limited("MFHK") and their local business heads. The tactical responsibilities feed one larger objective: ensure that MFA and MFHK are, at all times, duly authorised (where required), supervised and compliant to carry out financial services in accordance with the provisions of the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Terrorist Financing Ordinance and any other applicable laws and regulations that tackle Financial Crime (1), as overseen by the Registry for Trust and Company Service Providers (for MFHK). Primary responsibilities include: Acting as the Complian ce Manager and MLRO for MF A/MFHK; Assisting the board s of directors with the maintenance of the MaplesFS Hong Kong Compliance program, designed to comply with and detect violations of local and applicable Financial Crime and Prudential (2) regulations and legislation in accordance with MFX's authorisations; including providing regular updates to the board and CCO (the Compliance programme is derived from the global MaplesFS Compliance strategic plan); Providing regular updates to the management of MFA/MFHK and the HOC, as required; Overseeing members of the Compliance team; Liaising and working closely with Business Assurance; Completing any required self‑assessment questionnaires for local external authorities and submitting via their portal; noting that for certain surveys the data collection is the responsibility of the business; Being the principal point of contact for MF A/MFHK with all external authorities including the Joint Financial Investigation Unit ("J FIU") on Financial Crime matters and the TCSP for matters relating to MFHK's licence; Being the Money Laundering Reporting Officer including undertaking investigations into internal suspicious activity reports and externalising with the JFIU as required; Being the point person for any inspections or thematic visits, ensuring remediation is handled appropriately with the business; Reviewing any internal suspicious activity reports and, after suitable investigation, externalising any reports to the J FIU as may be required; Participating as required in both internal audit and external audit reviews of the business, providing any necessary information on a timely basis; Supporting the business in terms of all matters pertaining to countering Financial Crime including requirements to support client onboarding, know your customer and related queries, sanctions, etc.; Supporting the roll‑out of the Global Compliance Strategic programme as required, including working on ad‑hoc project related initiatives; Working with Business Assurance in the region to support reviews of onboarding, customer due diligence and related know your customer requirements; Providing face‑to‑face training and support on financial crime and prudential matters; Managing the ongoing Compliance Monitoring Programme to ensure that the internal policies and procedures are being consistently and effectively adhered to, including client reviews, checks against international watch/sanctions lists, assessing and recommending amendments to internal systems and controls as well as policies, and procedures to facilitate compliance with the regulatory framework; Providing advice, assistance and guidance for all Compliance related business activities; Ensuring relevant and appropriate training is delivered on matters relating to Financial Crime, Prudential and other targeted topics such as induction training and that this is provided to all relevant and non‑relevant staff; liaising with all stakeholders as required. What You Bring In addition to indisputably high ethical standards and autonomy, the ideal candidate possesses the following: At least three years’ previous experience in a similar role is preferred; A recognised compliance qualification or equivalent qualification is preferred (or more hands‑on experience in an equivalent role); A demonstrable working knowledge of Financial Crime regulations and legislation including at least five years' experience of working with Hong Kong Compliance and F inancial C rime requirements; Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written and be able to deal with all levels of staff (English is the main language of the office); Possess strong attention to detail and be able to manage time effectively; Demonstrable team management experience.
