About the Company Our client is a leading Technology, Media, and Telecommunications (TMT) corporation headquartered and listed in Hong Kong, driving innovation across digital platforms, content creation, and connectivity solutions. Our dynamic portfolio spans telecommunications infrastructure, media production, and cutting‑edge tech services, serving a diverse clientele in Asia and beyond. Committed to excellence and compliance in a fast‑evolving regulatory landscape, we seek a seasoned Legal Counsel to support our growth and mitigate risks in this high‑stakes industry. Role Overview As Legal Counsel, you will play a pivotal role in providing strategic legal advice and support to the TMT operations in Hong Kong and regionally. With at least 8 years of PQE, you will handle complex legal matters in technology, media, and telecommunications, ensuring compliance with local and international regulations. This position requires a proactive, business‑oriented approach to legal challenges, collaborating closely with cross‑functional teams including executive leadership, operations, and finance. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast‑paced environment and has a deep understanding of Hong Kong’s legal framework, including data privacy, intellectual property, and competition laws. Key Responsibilities Provide expert legal counsel on TMT‑specific matters, including technology contracts, licensing agreements, content distribution, and telecommunications regulations. Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, such as service level agreements (SLAs), partnership deals, IP licensing, and vendor contracts. Advise on regulatory compliance, including adherence to the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (PDPO), Competition Ordinance, and Telecommunications Ordinance in Hong Kong, as well as cross‑border implications under frameworks like GDPR or PRC data laws. Manage intellectual property portfolios, including trademarks, copyrights, patents, and trade secrets in the media and tech sectors. Handle dispute resolution, litigation, and arbitration related to TMT issues, working with external counsel when necessary. Conduct risk assessments for new business initiatives, mergers, acquisitions, and joint ventures in the TMT space. Support corporate governance, including board matters, compliance training, and policy development. Monitor emerging legal trends in TMT, such as AI ethics, cybersecurity, digital media rights, and 5G/6G regulations, and provide proactive recommendations. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to align legal strategies with business objectives, fostering a culture of compliance and innovation. Oversee due diligence for investments and partnerships, ensuring legal soundness in high‑value transactions. Qualifications and Experience Qualified solicitor or barrister with at least 8 years of PQE, preferably gained in a TMT‑focused law firm or in‑house at a technology, media, or telecommunications company. Admitted to practice in Hong Kong (admission in other jurisdictions, such as the PRC or common law countries, is a plus). Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) or equivalent; postgraduate qualifications (e.g., LLM in IP or Commercial Law) are advantageous. Proven track record in handling TMT legal matters, including tech transactions, media content deals, and telecom regulatory issues. Key Skills and Competencies In‑depth knowledge of Hong Kong’s legal and regulatory environment, with expertise in TMT sectors. Strong drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills, with the ability to simplify complex legal concepts for non‑legal audiences. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building relationships across all levels of the organization. Business acumen with a strategic mindset, balancing legal risks with commercial opportunities. Proficiency in English and Cantonese; Mandarin is highly desirable for regional dealings. High ethical standards, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently under pressure. Familiarity with legal tech tools and digital workflows is a bonus.
