Job Overview The Privacy Counsel/Officer provides support for the development and implementation of the privacy framework within Asia Pacific. This role is responsible for overseeing compliance with local privacy laws and for documenting and testing process controls of relevant business units in order to mitigate exposure/risk and report those findings to process owners and senior management. Responsibilities Working with the Legal, Compliance and Risk teams in the development and maintenance of frameworks, programs, controls, and systems to enable Liberty to meet its privacy obligations. Support regional privacy initiatives and ensure alignment with APAC-wide privacy governance, including cross-border data sharing and regulatory harmonization. Applying your experience of privacy and data protection regulations by working collaboratively with Liberty’s business units and privacy regulators to ensure compliance and mitigate risk across the Hong Kong and Singapore businesses. Identifying and managing data privacy-related regulatory risks associated with Liberty’s Hong Kong and Singapore business activities including reviewing and approving privacy impact assessments and promoting Privacy by Design principles. Assess and manage cross-border data transfer risks, including compliance with local transfer mechanisms and Liberty’s internal standards. Working collaboratively as part of the integrated business unit model with data governance, information security and the global privacy teams. Leading the response to privacy-related questions, complaints and data breaches and liaising with Liberty’s privacy regulators in Hong Kong and Singapore to support Liberty’s accountability and transparency commitments, in consultation with the Head of Legal and Chief Risk Officer. Keeping abreast of privacy and data protection regulations and providing training and advice to the Hong Kong and Singapore businesses to inform them on relevant matters. Assisting in the development of effective data analytics and the reporting on Liberty’s data privacy compliance activities. Advising on the maintenance and deletion of records containing personal information. Support business units with data retention requirements and queries, including policy development and operational guidance. Ensuring relevant internal policies are kept updated. Networking with privacy, data protection and information security professionals to gain insight into good practice inside and outside of the insurance industry. Maintaining a good working knowledge of emerging technologies relevant to data protection. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and enhancing operational privacy efficiency. Consulting with process owners to encourage remediation of deficiencies with respect to privacy; ensuring that the action plans are being implemented and facilitate decision-making. Promoting a risk aware culture through assisting in the development of written, internet, intranet and other communication and training strategies for privacy issues and actively engaging with business unit managers. Contributing to the Responsible Artificial Intelligence (RAI) program, including privacy risk assessments, transparency obligations, and governance support. Conducting privacy due diligence on third‑party vendors, including assessment of AI capabilities and data handling practices. Reviewing contracts and legal documents to ensure privacy obligations are appropriately addressed and aligned with internal standards and regulatory expectations. Contributing to an effective team environment by interacting professionally with all business team members and providing development, support and assistance as required. Demonstrating behavior at all times in line with Liberty’s core values. Taking responsibility and showing initiative in the development of your technical and soft skills. Performing other related duties as assigned by your manager or other appropriate officer. Experience & Skills Degree in law, post qualification experience required in privacy, data protection, privacy law, security, risk management, auditing and/or compliance. Previous relevant experience in the General (non‑Life) Insurance industry highly desirable. Sound knowledge of local privacy regimes. Understanding of issues relating to use of personal data as part of analytics/ emerging and complex technologies (e.g. AI). Experience of working with Information Security teams, third‑party privacy risk management, and Data Governance desirable. Familiarity with governance, risk and compliance (GRC) methodologies preferred.
