Job Description - Patient Care Assistant II (Department of Pathology) (The Duchess of Kent Children’s Hospital) (HKWCS ) Application Deadline: 31 December 2025 Date of Issue: 18 December 2025 Vacancy Notification Circular No. HKWCS Position Patient Care Assistant II Rank Patient Care Assistant II Location Hong Kong West Cluster / The Duchess of Kent Children’s Hospital / Department of Pathology Up to 5% of total basic salary as end-of-contract gratuity may be offered to contract staff upon completion of the contract subject to satisfactory performance. Key Responsibilities Assist laboratory technologists in performing routine laboratory duties, including: staining, mounting and labeling of stained slides, printing cassettes and slides; transporting and storage of chemicals, including flammable and corrosive liquids; decontamination of contaminated equipment, instruments, apparatus and utensils; cleaning of laboratory benches and shelves; disinfection of contaminated plastic ware, glassware and containers; preparing specimen bottles, reagents, cleaning agents and sterile items for laboratory use; basic maintenance of minor equipment and refrigerators; filing and retrieving patients’ materials; processing blood units or components received from blood bank. Perform specimen reception including sorting, checking, labeling, registration of clinical specimens received, centrifuging and aliquoting plasma or serum from specimens; packaging specimens for dispatching. Operate and handle general support service equipment such as centrifuge, water-bath, safety cabinet, electronic balance, water-purification system, automatic stainer, coverslipper, fume hood, cassette and slide printers under supervision of medical laboratory technicians or technologists. Prepare simple laboratory reagents; handle inflammable or corrosive chemicals under supervision, including handling and preparing of formaldehyde solution. Handle blood and other patient specimens including body fluid or marrow blood. Assist in reception of blood products from blood bank and transportation of blood component units. Assist in test procedures such as sample preparation or centrifugation process. Handle Covid-19 related testing and procedures. Perform general clerical duties, assist in computer entry of inventory control items, raise purchase requisitions, data analysis, statistical reporting, may require to do manual handling work. Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor. Entry Requirements Completed F.5 / S.5 or equivalent. Completed structured departmental training. Preferred Attributes / Exposure Possess working experience in laboratory. Self-motivated and able to work independently under pressure. Pleasant and mature personality with good communication skill and inter-personal skill, interested to work in hospital environment. Good PC skills & knowledge in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and other MS Office applications. Fluent in spoken Cantonese and ability to speak English and Mandarin.
