Art Teacher

Job Description We are seeking a passionate and creative Art teacher to join our school, dedicated to fostering artistic expression and appreciation in students from 6-14 years old. The ideal candidate will create an engaging and supportive environment that encourages exploration, creativity, and individual growth. The Art teacher reports directly to the Head of Single Subjects, with support from the Curriculum Leaders. The Art teacher is an integral part of a strong educational team that helps provide engaging and meaningful learning experiences within their specialist area, and helps the school anticipate and respond to evolving educational trends and the needs of children. The Art teacher should have strong communication and interpersonal skills, be a team player who collaborates with other IMS staff, and has a proven track record of developing safe learning environments that cater to overall wellbeing and individual learning needs. Regular monitoring and assessment of students’ performance to provide accurate reporting to parents is part of the role. The position requires a teaching degree or a degree in the specialist area with an additional teaching qualification such as a PGCE or equivalent. Previous teaching experience within Art is highly recommended. Main Responsibilities Plan, prepare and deliver Art lessons to students aged 6-14 years old, maintaining and developing unit plans and overviews of each academic year. Develop positive relationships with teachers, parents, students and potential parents within the IMS community. Prepare a safe and well‑kept environment that supports the physical, social and mental wellbeing of students. Develop student‑centred learning experiences that promote inquiry. Differentiate teaching approaches to address the various year levels and needs of students. Use a range of assessment methods to provide accurate evaluation of each student’s performance. Prepare Term and Year‑End reports using the school‑prescribed software and approaches for all students in care. Prepare for and conduct formal Parent‑Teacher Conferences and additional parent conferences as needed. Follow up on concerns regarding any IMS student with the classroom teacher and the Head of Single Subjects. Collaborate with other members of the Single Subject team to deliver integrated learning experiences. Contribute to whole‑school programmes, events and initiatives such as outdoor educational experiences, school performances, and in‑house Professional Development for teachers. Run Extra‑Curricular Activities (ECAs) for students after regular school hours, when required. Ensure equipment and resources are in good condition and use the budget to replace or enhance the programme. Participate in school Open Days and prepare the art classroom to present a dynamic learning environment for prospective students and parents. Plan and execute stage design and other beautification efforts as requested for school performances and assemblies. Requirements Possess a teaching degree or a regular degree with an additional teaching qualification on top. A demonstrated interest in student‑centred learning such as Montessori or PYP. Have at least 2 years of experience within an educational setting, ideally teaching Art. Relevant experience and understanding of the latest trends in Art education. Team player who is willing to collaborate with colleagues and support areas outside of direct teaching, and has the initiative required to work in a busy International School.
