The successful candidate will be an outstanding classroom practitioner with a proven track record of delivering excellent student outcomes at GCSE and A-Level. You will be passionate about English Language and Literature, and committed to fostering a love for the subjects, equipping our students with the knowledge and skills to succeed in their further studies and future careers.Key Responsibilities Teaching and Learning To plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality, engaging lessons in English across Key Stage 3, and English Literature at GCSE and A-Level. To demonstrate excellent subject knowledge and a passion for the English curriculum. To differentiate teaching to meet the needs of all learners, ensuring every student is challenged and supported to achieve their full potential. To use a variety of assessment strategies to monitor student progress, provide timely and constructive feedback, and inform future planning. To contribute to the development of schemes of work and teaching resources for the department.Student Development and Pastoral Care (Form Tutor) Act as the first point of pastoral contact and support for your form group, fostering a positive, safe, and inclusive environment. Deliver the daily form time programme, which includes assemblies, literacy/numeracy activities, and PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic) education. Monitor the academic progress, attendance, and punctuality of every student in your form group, following up on concerns as necessary. Support students in setting personal and academic targets and reviewing them regularly. Build strong, communicative relationships with the parents/carers of your tutees. Work closely with the Head of Year, SENCO, and other pastoral staff to ensure the well-being and safeguarding of all students in your care.Assessment and Reporting To assess, record, and report on the development, progress, and attainment of students in line with school policies. To prepare students for their public examinations, ensuring they are thoroughly familiar with the assessment objectives and examination techniques for the AQA/Edexcel/OCR Examination Board. To write accurate and informative reports for parents and attend Parents Teacher Conferences.Wider Professional Responsibilities To participate in departmental meetings, training, and professional development opportunities. To contribute to the wider life of the school through involvement in extra-curricular activities such as book club, debating clubs, and literary trips. To uphold and promote the values and ethos of the school at all times.Person Specification Essential Qualifications & Experience A recognised teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS) or equivalent. A degree in English or a related field. A thorough understanding of the current National Curriculum for KS3 English and GCSE/A-Level English Literature specifications.Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes Excellent Subject Knowledge: A deep and secure understanding of English Literature, from Shakespeare to modern and post-1914 texts, as well as a strong command of English Language and grammar. Outstanding Classroom Practitioner: The ability to inspire and motivate students, with a commitment to achieving the highest standards of learning and achievement. Data-Literate: The ability to analyse student performance data and use it to inform intervention and support. Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build strong, positive relationships with students, staff, and parents. Organisational Skills: Highly organised, with the ability to manage time effectively, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate records. Team Player: A collaborative and cooperative approach, with a commitment to working effectively as part of the English team and the wider school community. Safeguarding: A firm and committed understanding of the principles of safeguarding and child protection.
