Teacher of English

Teacher of English (May - June 2026) – South Island School South Island School seeks to appoint an outstanding teacher to work within the English Faculty. The successful applicant will be a highly skilled teacher, with the ability to motivate, inspire and engage with students in creative and innovative ways, both within and outside the classroom – with the overall goal of ensuring excellent educational outcomes for our students. Previous experience of IB MYP, IGCSE and/or IB Diploma English would be helpful, though this is not essential for an applicant with the right overall skillset. The successful applicant may be asked to assist with a tutor group, as well as contributing to the extra‑curricular life of the school. Please note that this role is only open to applicants who will be Hong Kong residents or have a Hong Kong working visa by the time the role starts. Completion of the Hong Kong teacher registration process will also be required if this has not been already completed. The Role Teachers at SIS are expected to be committed and flexible. Regular duties include: Planning lessons to meet each student’s individual learning needs and ensure excellent outcomes, in line with our schemes of learning; Using a range of appropriate strategies for positive classroom management, including the use of flexible groupings and structured inquiry, in line with the IBO philosophy; Enhancing learning through a range of well‑considered resources, including digital technologies; Maintaining a well‑organised and stimulating learning environment; Assessing students in relation to agreed learning outcomes; Providing clear and constructive feedback to students and their parents, inline with South Island School reporting systems; Working closely with the English faculty on future developments and shared planning; Working as a tutor for a group of students, within the Pastoral Learning Curriculum; Engaging actively with the Making a Difference, Values in Action and Expanding Horizons extra‑curricular programmes. Qualified Applicants Should Have the confidence to teach English to students of different ages and with differing levels of expertise; Demonstrate a high level of knowledge and understanding relating to all aspects of teaching English Literature and Language; Have an open‑mind and flexible approach to teaching and learning, showing a desire to develop professional knowledge and skills; Have the ability to work as part of a team and the willingness to help develop learning programmes in collaboration with the English faculty as a whole; Have an awareness of current educational developments in English education worldwide. Requirements Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature, or a related field (e.g., Media/Journalism) or in Education; PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate of Education) or equivalent.
