Watch Designer

We're seeking an exceptional watch designer with a strong aesthetic sense, substantial experience in watch design, and a deep passion for timepieces. In this role, you will work full‑time in collaboration with our watch designer for our brand and would be responsible for shaping Atelier Wen’s entire future product portfolio. This position offers a high level of responsibility, allowing you to channel your passion for watchmaking (and Chinese culture and crafts) while crafting a vision that embodies the brand’s values. Responsibilities 1. Creative Ideation and Conceptualisation Develop innovative concepts for new watch designs that align with the brand’s luxury aesthetic and cultural values. 2. Technical Drawings and Renderings Create detailed technical drawings, CAD models, and high‑quality renderings for all designs. Collaborate with design, manufacturing and operations teams to ensure precision in design execution. 3. Material and Component Selection Research and select premium materials and local Chinese crafts that align with the brand’s vision and luxury standards. Work with our manufacturing team and suppliers to source the finest materials that reflect the brand’s ethos. 4. Prototyping and Testing Oversee the prototyping process to ensure designs meet the highest aesthetic and functional criteria. Refine designs based on rigorous prototype testing and performance evaluations. 5. Manufacturing Collaboration Partner with production and engineering teams to translate designs into final products while maintaining flawless quality. 6. Brand Vision and Identity Develop and maintain a cohesive design language that reflects the brand’s luxury identity and resonates with its audience. Stay up‑to‑date on emerging trends in watch design to keep the brand’s portfolio current. 7. Documentation and Design Standards Maintain comprehensive documentation for all designs, including technical specifications and guidelines. Implement standardised design processes for consistent quality across the portfolio. 8. Stakeholder Collaboration Collaborate with internal designer on existing and future projects Work with internal teams and external partners to oversee the successful completion of projects. Collaborate with marketing teams to develop compelling product stories and promotional materials. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or higher in Industrial Design, Product Design, or a related field. 3 years of experience in watch design, preferably within the luxury segment, brand watch design (not white label design or manufacturing). Understanding of production and manufacturing processes and technical drawings. Experience in graphics design. Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks) and 3D modelling tools. Strong portfolio showcasing previous work in luxury watch design, including technical drawings and renderings. Deep understanding of premium materials and craftsmanship in watchmaking. Detail‑oriented mindset with a strong focus on quality and precision. Excellent communication skills for presenting concepts and collaborating with cross‑functional teams. Strong sense of curiosity and creativity. Preferred Qualifications Masters Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, or a related field. 3‑5 years of experience in luxury watch design with a notable global brand. Proven experience working with international suppliers and manufacturing teams. Knowledge of emerging trends in luxury watch design and the global market. Advantage for experience in packaging and display design. Advantage for experience and knowledge in movement modifications and decoration. Passion for storytelling and developing brand narratives through product design. Familiarity with Chinese culture and craftsmanship, and the ability to incorporate these elements into watch designs. Professional‑level proficiency in Mandarin is a bonus but not a requirement. Experience leading design projects from concept to final production, with a strong ability to manage stakeholder expectations.
