Claims Executive Steamship Mutual is a P&I insurance company with 240 employees worldwide and offices around the globe. The main office is located near Liverpool Street Station, London. Overall Job Purpose The role is within the Eastern Syndicate, which looks after members from Hong Kong, Mainland China and Taiwan. The specific responsibilities are providing P&I and FDD claims handling service and advice to those members. Key Responsibilities Promote the relationship between the Club and existing members. Handle assigned claims according to company procedures, provide advice on claims‑related issues, and identify loss prevention opportunities. Ensure electronic correspondence related to claim files is promptly and correctly filed; maintain up‑to‑date e‑files. Contribute to continuous development of company procedures and systems. Produce relevant articles for inclusion in club publications. Participate in meetings with service providers, correspondents, lawyers, and brokers. Support the Syndicate Underwriting objectives. Carry out any other duties within the scope of personal skills and abilities, as reasonably instructed. Attend appropriate training and develop relevant skills. Person Specification Proven experience handling shipping litigation and dispute resolution from a P&I club, insurer, law firm, or shipowner/charterer. Degree educated, preferably LLB or LLM in Maritime Law, with 2–4 years PQE or equivalent experience at a P&I club. Excellent communication skills (negotiating, presenting, reporting – written and verbal). Ability to build and maintain effective business relationships at all levels, both internally and externally. Highly organized, motivated, and detail‑oriented. Ability to deliver high‑quality work within agreed timeframes and prioritise workload. Fluency in both Mandarin and English is essential. Proactive, self‑motivated, and able to work collaboratively as part of a team.
