Job Description
  1. Provides specialist medical/scientific strategic and operational input for Hong Kong, into core medical affairs activities such as: healthcare professional/provider interactions (Payers, Patients, Prescribers, and Providers)
  2. Educational initiatives (medical education, data, and value proposition); generation of clinical and scientific data (enhancing therapeutic benefit and value);
  3. Safeguarding patient safety (risk minimization activities / safety surveillance activities)
  4. Works closely with brand team to provide strategic medical input into assigned brand (product) strategies.
  5. Develop and maintain in depth knowledge for assigned product(s) / relevant therapeutic area(s) through attendance / participation at key internal meetings/training sessions, relevant congresses, and seminars and by regular self-study of the literature.
  6. Provide expert medical/scientific advice for assigned products and related therapeutic areas, including responding to requests for scientific/technical information; contribute to the review and medical and scientific accuracy of core dossiers (i.e. reimbursement dossiers, HEOR dossiers, scientific information packs, etc.).
  7. Support internal teams such as sales and marketing and members of the Affiliate Brand Team to develop their scientific and technical expertise through the delivery of scientific update presentations. Work collaboratively and cross-functionally while retaining functional independence.
  8. Establish and maintain professional and credible relationships with key thought leaders / external experts and academic centers; this will involve participating in scientific congresses, coordinating advisory boards, round-table meetings, discussion fora etc.
  9. Deliver scientific presentations and medical education programs to healthcare professionals individually or in groups (meetings, clinical sessions, etc.), where appropriate.
  10. Screen relevant literature and other information from relevant scientific societies meetings and conferences and develop summaries of key messages for use within the brand team (e.g. key areas of scientific/company interest, new trends in diagnosis, monitoring and treatments in the therapeutic area, etc.)
  11. Deliver training to sales forces and other departments; develop and update relevant training materials.
  12. Involved in the Medical/Brand planning process for the assigned Brand and therapeutic areas and to ensure that all planned projects/Scientific activities are carried out, ensuring all budgets, timelines and compliance requirements are factored into the completion of projects.
  13. Clinical Research Activities:
    1. Design and implement clinical research projects within defined standards and budgets (e.g. Phase IV, post marketing clinical activities such as registry/database projects, epidemiological surveys, and PMOS studies).
    2. Provide the required oversight to manage review, approval and conduct of IIS studies.
    3. Support the affiliate Clinical Research Department in the management of clinical studies, as appropriate (e.g. review new clinical study protocols, identifying potential investigators/sites, conducting feasibility surveys).
  14. Review promotional and preparation of non-promotional material. Ensure the medical/scientific content is correct and fully compliant with Abbvie's internal policies and guidelines.
  15. Provide medical/scientific input into marketing strategy and key commercial initiatives, as required. Monitor the environment for competitive intelligence (e.g. product strategies, studies, commercial messages, positioning, etc.) and communicate, where appropriate, within the Company.
  16. Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, guidelines, codes of conduct, AbbVie's policies and procedures and accepted standards of best practice.
Qualifications
  1. Provide input, as required, into the development of product or TA specific strategic medical affairs plans for the affiliate medical department and local brand plans; collaborate and partner with local business partners to ensure that medical activities for assigned products / therapeutic areas are aligned with local brand strategic plans.
  2. Ensure that local medical affairs implementation plans for assigned products / therapeutic areas are executed efficiently.
  3. Ensure adherence to all applicable laws and regulations, guidelines, codes of conduct, AbbVie standards, policies and procedures.
  4. Operate as a scientific interface and resource to HCPs/Customer(s), Health Care Institutions, External Experts, and professional associations regarding assigned AbbVie Products or Products in Development.
  5. Provide specialist medical/scientific strategic input and operational support of core activities such as local clinical research, HCP/Customer interactions, generation and communication of clinical and scientific data, educational initiatives and patient safety for assigned products / therapeutic areas.

Education/Experience Required:

  1. Advanced degree or experience in neuroscience discipline is preferred
  2. Experience in developing and maintaining expert knowledge for the assigned therapeutic area, and in medical research in general.
  3. Keen interest in developing and maintaining expert knowledge for assigned therapeutic area/product and in medical research in general.
  4. Excellent written and spoken communication and presentation skills, with a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with thought leaders, physicians and other healthcare decision makers.
  5. Excellent written and oral English and Chinese.
  6. High customer orientation.
  7. Strong commitment to compliance with the relevant rules and procedures, and to scientific quality and integrity.
