PURPOSE

Support the Group CRO in the formulation of and oversight of the financial risk management ("FRM") policies, standards, and strategies as part of an integrated enterprise risk management and risk appetite framework. FRM is primarily concerned with the oversight of prudential risks, including but not limited to insurance risks and market and investment risks, their impact on regulatory solvency/capital requirements and policyholder expectations.

KEY ACCOUNTAIBILITIES
  • Develop prudential risk management policies and strategies for financial and insurance risks in line with the Board's risk appetite and market practices.
  • Develop and embed Group Risk Appetite Framework ("RAF")
  • Work closely with the BU CROs to localise the Group's risk management frameworks, policies and standards ensuring local Board approval.
  • Formulate strategies for controlling financial risks taking into consideration optimisation of risk and return and appetite for risk/loss/volatility of returns.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of investment, market (incl. interest rate), credit and liquidity risk management policies, standards and controls, including limits.
  • Oversee the Development and implementation of Insurance risk management policies, standards and controls for mortality, morbidity, persistency. Including product design and pricing, model risks, and appropriateness of assumptions.
  • Develop and maintain the Group ORSA and provide ongoing support to the CRO in independent assessment of strategic business decisions, including but not limited to the Business Plan and material transactions such as M&A ("Use Test")
  • Support and prepare relevant materials for the Group Board, Group Risk Committee, and Group ALMCO (and other committees as required).
  • Provide leadership and FRM support to local BUs in their analysis of risk and decision making. Support, oversee and develop FRM reporting at BU level, including committee reporting and BU ORSA for completeness and consistency with Group approach where necessary/appropriate.
  • Be a key part of the Risk Management and Compliance leadership team, developing the risk culture, appreciation of risk management and development of capabilities in FWD.
  • Management of specialist Insurance and Investment risk teams.
  • Support other Group teams on ad hoc transactions with material impact on financial risk, such as material block or flow reinsurance treaties.
  • Support local BU product development and approval process.
  • Support local BU risk teams in actuarial assumption review process.
QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE
  • 15+ years insurance experience in actuarial and/or risk management functions
  • Fellowship member of an internationally recognised actuarial professional body preferred but CFA, FRM and other internationally recognized relevant qualifications accepted.
  • Strong management experience and good written and spoken communication.
KNOWLEDGE & TECHNICAL SKILLS
  • Understanding of the interactions for insurance liabilities, capital, product, EV, financial reporting, and risks
  • Understanding of management of life insurance investment portfolios, ALM.
  • Experience in assessing risk associated with business plans and material transactions.
  • Experience in reporting to senior management and independent board committees.
