Entry Requirements:


Candidates should - (a) have completed Primary 6 education, or equivalent; (b) have five years’ working experience in at least one of the following fields – (i) operating horticultural machinery and horticultural maintenance work, e.g. tree works, gardening and sports turf maintenance, etc.; or (ii) repair and maintenance work in sports centre; or (iii) domestic and sports equipment repair and maintenance work; (c) have demonstrated the potential or ability to supervise staff; (d) be able to communicate in Cantonese/Chinese and simple English; able to read simple Chinese and simple English; and able to write simple Chinese or simple English; and (e) have a pass result in the Basic Law and National Security Law Test. [Notes: (i) Candidates will be required to pass a trade test.(ii) Candidates should state clearly in their applications details of any skills and experience they have in the fields as specified in (b) above.(iii) All applicants for civil service jobs will be assessed on their knowledge of the Basic Law and the National Security Law. A pass result in the Basic Law and National Security Law Test is an entry requirement for all civil service jobs. Only those candidates who have passed the Basic Law and National Security Law Test will be considered for appointment. For candidates who have not taken the Basic Law and National Security Law Test or have not attained a pass result in the Basic Law and National Security Law Test at the time of application, they may still apply for the job and arrangements will be made for them to take the relevant Basic Law and National Security Law Test during the recruitment process.]
Duties:
A Senior Artisan (Domestic Affairs) is mainly deployed on - (a) supervising the performance of contractors on horticultural, cleansing and laundry services, including room cleansing, change of linens, grass cutting and gardening, etc.; (b) supervising junior staff to perform domestic maintenance works; (c) ensuring that an adequate stock of working gear, cleaning materials and equipment is kept for use by staff under charge; (d) assisting in up-keeping the security and discipline of centre including routine spot checks and liaison with the centre security guards; (e) carrying out minor urgent repairs of sport equipment, furniture and domestic appliance, etc. at the centre; (f) reporting any damages and/or shortages of equipment immediately to senior officers and initiating action for repairs/ replacements at the earliest opportunity; and (g) assisting in handling ad hoc incidents in camps. [Notes: Successful candidates should note the following - (i) they are required to work 45 hours net per week (excluding meal breaks); (ii) they are subject to posting and transfer and required to work in remote areas (including outlying Islands) at the discretion of the Head of Grade/Department; (iii) they are required to wear uniform;(iv) they may be required to perform shift duties and work irregular hours; (v) they may be required to operate horticulture machinery; (vi) they may be required to undergo in-service training and related assessment; and (vii) they may be required to perform outdoor duties. ] Terms of Appointment:
A new recruit will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of probation bar, he/she may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms.
