Job Summary

The Associate Director, Financial Planning and Analysis will lead a team to manage the U.S. GAAP reporting and related financial planning & analysis. This role will ensure the effectiveness of internal controls, including SOX compliance, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to support the growth of the HK business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain monthly reports for U.S. GAAP reporting to ensure accurate, reliable, and timely financial and management reporting to senior management.
  • Provide oversight to ensure key accounting controls and financial integrity are in place.
  • Provide high-quality financial analyses and a good understanding of financial performance.
  • Provide guidance on accounting and reporting requirements for all new reinsurance agreements and processes assigned to specific areas of oversight.
  • Participate in the annual financial planning and budgeting process for Hong Kong.
  • Work with the Valuation team to update financial forecasts throughout the year for reporting to management.
  • Present financial analysis and commentary to relevant stakeholders with reasonable guidance from supervisor.
  • Manage a team of 2-3 associates.
  • Review staff accountant's responsibilities for accuracy and reliability, both from an accounting and reporting perspective.
  • Perform supervisory duties, including hiring, training, evaluating, coaching, and disciplining direct reports. Foster a positive and engaged work environment. Mentor associate(s) and give guidance on associate development.
  • Collaborate with numerous internal departments to assure integrity of client data and reports and continually evaluate quality of information for accuracy and compliance.

Requirements

Education and Experience

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Chartered Accountant or CPA certification or equivalent.
  • 10+ years accounting/finance experience, with at least 5 years in the life insurance/reinsurance industry.

Skills and Abilities

Required:

  • Basic Word, intermediate Excel, and/or Access and SQL/Query skills.
  • Ability to balance detail with departmental goals/objectives.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, balancing priorities and deliverables.
  • Advanced persuasion skills when working with internal and external partners to resolve issues/problems.
  • Complex investigative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills, demonstrating the ability to convey business terminology that is meaningful and well received by associates and management at all levels and by external contacts.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills, demonstrating the ability to manage, mentor, and develop support staff.
  • Ability to liaise with individuals across a wide variety of operational, functional, and technical disciplines.
  • Ability to work well within a team and manage a team.
