Key Responsibilities
  • Support the Senior Manager, Installations and Displays in managing exhibition lighting requirements and coordinating with key stakeholders.
  • Work with various departments to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain lighting components in exhibition spaces.
  • Assist with scheduling, coordination, installation, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of in-gallery lighting fixtures and controls.
  • Collaborate with exhibition designers, conservators, and production teams to apply lighting techniques appropriate for museum exhibition spaces.
  • Work with the Exhibition Production Manager to undertake re-lamping of in-gallery lighting for exhibitions, coordinating with exhibition managers, internal art technicians, and Facilities Management as needed.
  • Coordinate with supervisors and Facilities Management on in-gallery lighting needs and recommendations to ensure all requirements are met.
  • Liaise with and instruct subcontractors and vendors on lighting needs and requirements when needed.
  • Coordinate electrical load calculations for lighting track to ensure design load is balanced and within design limits.
  • Jointly oversee physical and digital inventory and storage of lighting equipment and management of assets.
Requirements
  • At least 5 subjects at Level 2/Grade E or above in the HKDSEE/HKCEE or equivalent academic qualification.
  • A minimum of 3 years of full-time technical experience in lighting support in a museum, gallery, or performing arts theatre operating to international standards of best practice with demonstrable experience in installation and exhibition support.
  • Proven knowledge of experience in applying lighting techniques appropriate to a museum, art gallery, or similar environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of lighting theory and dimming controls.
  • Strong knowledge of Digital Addressable Lighting Interface (DALI) and DMX Programming control system, preferably with good knowledge of IP Networking.
  • Literacy in various lighting fixtures, tracks, components, and basic familiarity of audio visual and computer hardware monitors, graphic card configurations, peripherals, and control devices.
  • Proactive in leading discussions, asking questions, and offering creative solutions.
  • Team player and independent, working in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.
  • Ability to prioritize needs in various situations and manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Autodesk CAD, Vectorworks, or Google Sketch-Up.
  • Registered Electrical Worker (Grade A or above) and Construction Industry Training Certificate (Green Card) under Section 6BA(2) of the Factories is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to explain technical issues in English and Chinese.
